I've got a Mag85 with carrier and charger coming this week.

What voltage do the AA batteries need to drop to before I can use them?

Can I get a Lumencraft or Malkoff adapter for other battery types and use that instead of 9 rechargeable AA's?

Anything else I should know?
 
drop it to 12v or less, it burns out at 12.3

I run mine off 3 li ion, but I installed inrush current limiter, it acts like a soft start and has some resistance, have not burned a bulb yet on start up. If you are using a maglite as a host with stock bulbtower/switch, bulb spring will give you some resistance and voltage your bulb will see will be a bit smaller than the cells push out,

I haven't received it yet but this is what I'm getting.

Something like this in a 4D body might work along with the limiter you mentioned.

Do you have more details about your build?
 
It is C mag with aluminum reflector and borosilicate glass ( you need them for 1185, or any other bulb that is stronger than stock, cuz stock plastic reflector and glass will melt, regular glass lens UCL will crack, you need heat resistant borosilicate glass. the way i installed NTC can be done with D mag too. digikey and mouser sell those.

thst limiter looks like it's just soldered in a loop. Can you please add one more pic from the limiter side?
 
That disc is a pcb with copper on both sides, spring is soldered to one side, one leg of ntc soldered to the spring, other side is touching the tailcap, and that is where another leg is soldered, ntc soldered in series with cells, copper clad board is sold everywhere; amazon, ali, ebay......

If you are using 4D Mag body, it is better to power it by three of 26650
 
Are you getting WA1185 bulbs with it? Those have been discontinued for a long time, I don't think there's stock of them anywhere. You should explore alternative options.

If you get a body I will include one.
Unfortunately nobody have any and nobody want to make more for same price.
 
Yea, they are next to impossible to get today, I have 1 bulb, when it blows, my mag 85 will be pretty much useless, not that it is much more useful now, sitting on a shelf. I do not use any inc. lights in probably a decade, I just keep few , when my kids grown enough I'll show them what light tech used to be before their time. My oldest one now 6 can not believe when i was his age there was no computers, no internet, no several hundred TV channels, or plastic bottles, he can not imagine life without those things, He also can not believe we spend most of the day outside, with no parents supervision, and very few toys compared to what kids have today
 
Yea, unfortunately they are not much easier to find than 1185. I wonder if WA bulb division still exist within the company, from what i've noticed every piece of medical equipment today uses leds. WA was making bulbs for their medical equipment which no longer uses them.
