We got long winters here in Norway, and I know from experience how much more pleasant it is to wake up when there is light outside.

So I am looking for a tail stand-able light with a wide spread (mule or diffused) that can simulate the almost orange light from a morning sun in my bedroom. I am thinking 1800-2500K. Basically a more powerful candle light. No need for anything extremely powerful for this, it's just a "gentle wake-up" light, getting the brain going.

Currently looking at a Convoy 3X21 519A 2700K (not sure if it will be "yellowy" enough) or Emisar D4K E21A 2000K.

The most yellow light I currently have is a Convoy S2+ 319A 3000K (my first "custom" light <3), and I want something even more yellow than that.
My bedroom walls are warm white, with the bed in the middle of it, so any light will be easily distributed throughout the room from the night stand.

EDIT:
A regular, non-diffused can likely work as well. The ceiling is white too, so just projecting something up to it may also work. That would make the light more sun-like too.

No one? No suggestions of alternative, good amber / orange emitters or flashlight models?
I'll go for Emisar D4K E21A 2000K then.

I have seen alarm clock- lamps that gradually get lighter to simulate sunrise.
I don't remember the tint on them.

Edit: if you Google “sunrise alarm clock” there are a bunch of options. Some seem to have a pretty warm tint.

Thanks, I didn't consider a clock with a lamp in it.
...But damn, are those expensive (at least the ones I would actually want)! I can get a properly spec'ed Hank light for the same money.

Thank you for the suggestion, but I think I just want a flashlight. Already got a clock, placed outside the room to make sure I get out of bed before turning it off. And not just whack it to make it shut up, and turn around.

As my brain is a mix of fog and half-risen dough at this point, seeing the pitch black darkness out all the windows is not a very nice start every morning. So I figured blasting my face with something really yellow and a nice tint and good CRI would get the brain synapses going.

If you do a Google search for "amber flashlight" several possibilities come up.
Sure, but I was hoping for some personal experiences with amber / yellow lights. Or opinions on my considerations.
And Reddit doesn't really count as a reliable source of information, hence posting this question here. Though I read about others on Reddit using a yellow light as a bed stand light for the exact same reason as I will be. But I intend to use mine in the morning, and not in the evening.

But it's okay, I have made up my mind now. I'm getting a E21A 2000K. D4K, DT8K or DW4K.

Thread solved:
Just ordered an Emisar DT8K Nichia E21A 2000K.

Can post some photos after it arrives if interesting.

Phillips makes sunrise/sunset lamps, as well as blue light lamps. Might be worth a look!

Also, if it's true that Norway has amazing medical, would you be able to get a sleep aid/medical subsidy to offset the phillips lamp? Or does it not work that way?

I have looked at several such "mood lamps" and "sunrise lamps" - price for each of them equals 1-3 Hank lights.

If someone has a sleep related medical condition verified by a doctor, I think such lamps can fall into at least a partially subsidised category, if there is reason to believe it could help. I know I don't have a condition regarding sleep, so I won't get any "medical discounts".

Thanks for the suggestion, but I am set on the DT8K 2000K. Being a flashlight, I can also bring it with me much easier than any lamp. :)

Some updates here, just in case others are also looking for such a light.

The DT8K, E21A didn't work. Not nearly powerful enough, at "only" around 1800 Lumen.
So I went overkill, or so I thought, and got a Convoy 3X21E, 519A 1800K. Estimated 12000 Lumen of awesome!

...Except the Convoy 3X21E didn't work either, but for a different reason. Running it around 50 %, or guesstimated 4000 Lumen, the power was spot-on(!).
But the beam pattern was all wrong. I am trying to simulate the sun on a hot summer day, which is just a blinding spot when finding that tiny opening in the curtains. And I specified the 3X21A with a 60° bead TIR, which sends the light literally everywhere.

Third try was a Convoy L21A, LHP73B 1800K. I like the 519A 1800K better, it has a more Yellow light compared to the LHP73B 1800K more Orange. But the beam pattern was just what I wanted. Ordered the L21A with a Smooth reflector (default is orange peel), and much like the L21B (except with better thermals) the L21A has a big hotspot in the middle, just like the sun.

But even the L21A had the same issue of the initial Emisar DT8K - not enough power for my taste. So I ordered a 3X21A, LHP73B 1800K a couple days ago. Just got shipped, and is expected to arrive in about 3 weeks from now.

For those who thinks this is excessive or just a load of nonsense...first off, I don't think you have ever experienced 6 months of winter and darkness. Even I didn't think - or even had a clue until a year ago - a bright yellow light would or could do anything at a pitch black 6 AM December morning.

Secondly, I really recommend you try it for yourself. Try a Convoy S21E, 519A 1800K as the cheapest option. Ask for a Smooth reflector in the order notes.
Place the light on something, and just let it shine in your face with eyes closed for 3-4 minutes. I swear, I eventually do feel the warmth in my face despite the light still being cold to the touch.

is to use a flashlight for this
😉
You already have to be fully awake for switching it on and placing it somewhere.
+ it needs constant "help" to work (= keeping batteries in shape).
Such a thing absolutely has to work totally alone.

for ages now I have a normal 220V desk light, with an extra "sunny" bulb, placed beside my bed.

Plus a programmable adapter that switches the light on in the morning during the week, but not on the weekend.
Plus, in Winter, switches the light on/off in the afternoon / evening to even simulate someone being at home.

Ooh, smart guy!
Sorry, I don't mean to be rude - I just rewatched the Mulan animated movie (the actually good one), and the "ooh, tough guy"-comment kinda stuck. ❤️

Honestly, a 240 V solution was the first place I looked. Both mood lamps and equivalent light bulbs. But all I found was 15, 25, max 40 W bulbs, puttng out a measly 470 lumen, tops (looking at the Philips Flame bulbs). The flashlight I got on order now is expected to provide nearly 10 times that.

Being awake isn't the problem - I am deliberately having the alarm clock in the adjacent room, so I HAVE TO get out of bed to turn it off. And it's one of those crescendo clocks, that doesn't stop...ringING....EVER!!!! And at that point, it's only pushing a button - as I would with any lamp - to turn the flashlight on when going back to bed for the fog to clear a bit.

The flashlight is already in its place, so operating it is a non-issue. As is battery time - we're talking about a 21700 (soon triple 21700) flashlight, used at ~50 % output for 5 minutes every morning. And the light won't see any other use. Charging the batteries duriing a weekend every month is a hassle I can easily live with.
...It's not like my other 60+ flashlights doesn't also need a charge every third full moon. Another 1-3 cells isn't even an inconvenience.

Phuuu.
Sounds like hard awakes
😉
I came from that, but now its:
1st: radio alarm, (~ 5-10 mins listening)
2nd: the light goes on
works fine, usually I am awake be4 the radio

Ps: i start my day at 4:30
😁

Ps: i start my day at 4:30
05:30 AM here, so an hour later. :)

When does the sun come up at your whereabouts? Here in Norway, during the winter - especially December / January - the sun is supposed to be visible (depending on the weather) from around 9 AM. And then the sun goes down again around 16:00. Or 4 PM. That's at its worst.

So it's a lot of darkness during the 24 hours a day lasts. And the winter season lasts for some 6 months where i live.
Most of our light bulbs are 3000K / 2700K already, but having discovered the beauty of 1800K, I cannot get enough of it.
...Maybe I'm overcompensating, having recently discovered the wonderful 1800K, but I'm not there yet where I will admit it or not. ^^

Sun comes out when I drive to work; and I drive directly into it.
All year, because with summer time, everything starts again
And in the afternoon again, into the evening sun

Ahhhh, I just wanted to ask if You tried that warm white,
at my workplace I have put all that cold white, as well as the warm white, away - for daytime white (4.000 - 5.000 K)
That pleases my eyes the most.
I think the wake up bulb is the same

I am STILL chasing that perfect morning sun flashlight. I just reached out to Hank, and he could "ship accordingly" if I ordered a Noctigon K1 and requested a 519A 1800K in it. Waiting to hear back from Simon before making a decision, regarding the Convoy 4X18 / 3X21 big boys.

EDIT:
That's a response from both Hank and Simon - should I get the Convoy M21H or Noctigon K1 with the 519A 1800K? Which has the most narrow hotspot?

EDIT 2:
Simon came through on the L21B, and that's good enough for me.
