Q3's mother ?

Re: Q3\'s mother ?

Here's the switch resistor in the Q-III. Looks like a 000.
The circuit in the Q-III is the Zetex 300 without the Schottky and Capacitor.

THANKS! So much better than looking up my charts.

Paul,

Any chance of a more detailed review? It looks like a really nice deal, great idea for mixing and matching the switches.

[/ QUOTE ]

It is the Nuwai TM-115X, reviewed here >>>Quickbeam's review

With respect to performance, on the low setting it is about as bright as an Infinity Ultra; on the high setting it equals or exceeds a Gerber LX3.0. I just got some in from an order, and it is now my favorite LED flashlight. A lot of value for the money!

Thanks for the link Steve, nice light but I cannot stand the size of the head. It really messes up the clean lines of the light.

Steve,
The light that started this thread doesn't look similar to the Nuwai TM-115X, reviewed here >>>Quickbeam's review that you suggested above. Are you sure about that?

Re: Q3\'s mother ?

I was about to comment on the same thing...

I don't know what Steve had in mind, but there's no way that the light in question is the TM-115X (we are afterall talking about a light which appears to be a 2 X 123 version of the QIII, with a 2-way switch)!!!

While the specs on the TM-115X are not too shabby, and perhaps similar to the specs of the "QIII's Mother", I'm not at all crazy about that big head on the TM-115X. I placed an order for the same light purchased by Paul...a 2X123 version of the QIII...at least I certainly hope so!

Re: Q3\'s mother ?

The model name for 'Q-III Mother' is "TM-301-3"

Of course, TM-115X is different model.

Re: Q3\'s mother ?

I think this is not the same light we are talking here, the TM-301X-3 has a smaller bezel and reflector. It looks exactly like a Q-III with a longer body.

Re: Q3\'s mother ?

Is the circuit inside both QIII and TM301x-3 is the same or similar.? Anyone test it about brightness and runtime.? I know only TM301x-3 is come with 2 stage switch.

Re: Q3\'s mother ?

There is no circuit inside the TM301, just a 2 ohm resistor. There is a photo of that up the thread.

Re: Q3\'s mother ?

So, it's better to use QIII with the advantage from circuit inside.

Re: Q3\'s mother ?

Why do I think I'm about to learn a lesson from this?

This is what I said when I first jumped into this thread:

Re: Q3\'s mother ?

Well my "Q3's Mother", the TM-301X-3 arrived today (took a week, but that's seems reasonable coming from Hong Kong to Baltimore).

After what I'd been reading here, I had already set myself up mentally for a dissapointment...But I'm happy to report, that it's just the opposite...I'm very pleased!

It is true that it's not quite the ideal performer for which I had originally hoped...you know, as in an exact 2 X 123 version of the Q3 (but with a 2 way switch)...But with the understanding that the electronics are different (and somewhat less desireable) than those of the Q3, as discussed over the past few pages, I am quite happy with the overall color and brightness of this light.

I've already reported that I had definitely won the Lux Lottery with my Q3...(Very bright, extremely white light with just a hint of blue,...and with "Moonglow")....Well the new light is almost dead-on the same exact color of almost pure white.

And while the Q3 has an ever so slightly brighter "hotspot" (the difference is very subtle), it's "Mother" definitely has brighter spill! They both give off the identically same size of spill, but as much as the Q3 is reknown for the way it will light up a wall, the TM-301X-3 will also light up the same amount of wall,...but it's even brighter!!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Don't mean to gloat...but it sure looks like my good luck is still on a roll... I think it's safe to say I won the Lux Lottery again! That puts me at 4 big winners out of 5...Not too shabby...I'm obviously thrilled with those percentages!

The "Low" setting of the switch, changes the brightness of the light to be quite low (almost too low)...about what you'd expect from an inexpensive Photon knockoff...if you know what I mean. It's certainly enough to find your way around in the dark. But it's probably just right for when I keep it on my bedside table and don't want to "blind" myself with the light switched to the high setting!

I love the size of the "Mother"...Exactly 5",... only 1 3/8" longer than the Q3. It too comes with a nice pouch (looks identical to the Q3's pouch, only larger)...Same belt loop configuration. As I did with the Q3, I'm going to remove the awkwardly placed clip, so that it more easily slips into the pouch without catching. I definitely will be wearing it on my belt whenever I'm not wearing the Q3.

All-in-all, I'm quite pleased. A heck of a lot of light for $35 bucks plus shipping! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/happy14.gif

Re: Q3\'s mother ?

Viki has some of these for sale in the B/S/T forum.

I've noticed in discussions recently that the "Sharper Image Luxeon" seems to be related to the Nuwai QI. The SI light is a neat light, just doesn't looks as "tactical" as the Nuwai. From looking on advancedmart.com's website there are other models that are probably made by Nuwai, or the parent company of Nuwai, and some of them look pretty neat.

I'm not sure what is expected from a QIII with 2 123's but for the price there are other lights in that price range that are a little brighter than the QIII and that probably match the QIII mother- Streamlight TL-2 LED and Pelican M6 LED for instance. In fact I just ordered both of these for myself.

For starters, both of the lights you mentioned are most certainly very fine lights, but there are noteworthy differences:
Both of those are 1 watt, compared to this light, which is a 3 watt...At the very least, we know that 3 watt Luxeons (in most cases), are generally cleaner, whiter lights than the 1 watt Luxeons (unless I've misunderstood what I read in the numerous posts on the subject).

Both of those lights are larger than the "Q3's Mother" by 1/4" - 1/2" (in either width, or length) ...and both are significantly more expensive than the $35 price tag I paid for this light on e-bay. (BTW-I checked and you're right, Vicki is indeed selling the same light I just received...but not for the $35 I paid). /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

The merits of the QIII vs. much more expensive lights have been discussed in the CPF ad nauseum. While the QIII's ranking among the very "best" lights might be debated, I daresay nobody would think to contest it's extraordinary "bang for the buck!"

What I was expecting...or rather hoping, was that this new version would be an exact copy of my much-loved QIII...but with 2 X 123 cells, allowing it more run time than the single cell QIII...And with a two-way switch, so that I wouldn't necessarily have to run it on full blast at all times.

I paid $49 for my QIII (just before the price dropped a little) and I'm totally thrilled with it. I paid $35 for this light. And while it is not quite a QIII...it is definitely close enough to make me very, very pleased!

Interesting find...so Nuwai does not make these lights they are simply another distributer with their name on it? That may be the case as we've seen names like Ombu on the same light. My new question is what is the model TM-305x? It looks like the same as our TM-303X model Q-III's ... I managed to find 1 guy who has one, and maybe it coming in titanium is the only difference...who knows... his website is at http://fuja.s22.xrea.com/runtime/dop11mg/

Re: Q3\'s mother ?

I forgot about the Lux1 vs. Lux3 issue, and it does seem that unless the mother is significantly brighter then it should have pretty good runtime.

I have the Sharper Image Luxeon which so far seems to be functionally equivalent to the Nuwai QI, and I think it is made by the same company. I personally think it is great.

It will be real interesting to see how the mother works out, and for that price it certainly looks like a good deal. If I could buy one for that price without international shipping I would buy one right now.

Re: Q3\'s mother ?

Shipping from Hong Kong was only $9 bucks!
(It was fun getting the package, which was half-covered with all sorts of interesting stamps). /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

303 and 305 are identical except for the knurling pattern.
