The Sidewinder X and Compact III are both dual-fuel, eating AA or CR123.
Does anyone know whether they will also run off 4.2v rechargeable cells? I.e., 14500s and 16340s?
Definitely not listed in the documentation, but then support for rechargeables is not always documented.

(p.s. -- I do realize that one should never replace a pair of 1.5v AA's with a pair of 14500s, because then you'd be going from nominal 3v to nominal 8.4v -- a quick way to fry circuits. But the Compact III will take a single AA at 1.5v or a single CR123 at 3v. Maybe also a single 14500/16340 at 4.2v?)

They are not common with 4.2 volt rechargeable.
Thanks, ironhorse.
When you say “not common,” do you mean that some people do successfully use 4.2v rechargeables, but not many people?
(Like when we say, “red hair is not common”.)
Or is “common” a typo for another word, like “compatible”?
And can I ask what your basis is for saying this? Personal experience using 4.2v cells in these lights? Study of the circuitry? Friends inside Streamlight?
