I want a good quality light meter to measure lux readings from flashlights.
Price is no big concern , accuracy and quality is.

I know nothing about light meters , is there anything important I should consider before buying ?

Can someone recommend me a specific one?

Extech EA30, that's what I got after some serious digging. good meter.
Years ago there was a flashlight passed around & measured by many meters,
EX30 was one of the best with reasonable price ~150.

Two functions are very important. high read range 400Klux & peak hold function.

I have found the "pass around light thread" ma_sha1 was referring to.
It indeed looks like the Extech EA30 is one of the most accurate light meters testet.
I'm now in the process of reading the entire thread.
But i'm leaning towards buying this light meter. Further recommendations are however still welcome.

Another question.
I can buy the Extech EA30 with or without NIST Certification ( calibrated to meet the standards provided by the National Institute of Standards and Technology ).

I know the calibration is probably overkill for my needs , thats not the question ( i'm a little of a”freak” in that regard )

The question is:
will the calibration last forever, or should it be repeated after a period of time ?

If the later is the case I probably won't buy the calibrated one.
It will then be to expensive in the longrun , and a bit of a hassle too.
