red headlamp suggestions?

I bought the zebra h504r and the sofirm hs21. Subsequent testing suggests that I forgot/couldn't find the very dimmest zebra mode while in the field. It's quite dim and should have been reasonable for when I wanted just a little light. The sofirm dimest setting is still sort of bright, at least when you're in a dark place and reasonably dark adapted.

that makes sense, I think the H25LR claims a 1 lumen low.. I agree that is more than I need when fully dark adapted

the Zebra by default ships at a claimed 1 lm low, but a double clic goes to a 0.01 lm low

here are the website outputs for the 504r

step 4, 8, 12, (green, yellow, red) are defaults.
Their secondary modes, step 2, 6, 10, are toggled by doing 2 Clic from On.

Odd numbered outputs can only be activated by getting into the programming function.

the Zebra UI takes some getting used to, but the AA headlamps are very nice tiny lights.. I hope you enjoy it

Like I sated in my first post. My recommendation is the Streamlight sidewinder Compact III. For me an extremely versatile light. All colors have a very low low. When you switch the light on the selected color always starts in the lowest mode. You can switch the light than to a brighter mode.
I use my light with Eneloop AA cells, perfect even in emergency cases. I always have tons of Eneloops in stock.
