Well worth purchasing. If Olight stick to the original statement that they are only building 5000 of each configuration, then time is of the essence.

I've got the polished titanium, Rose Gold Copper and the raw copper. I've no interest in the aluminum version as it's going to show wear. Since Going Gear is the only company selling the brass versions, I'm going to have to purchase one of those also.

I've got one of the Firefly titanium lights coming and the Atlas C57, so after the additional S1 purchases, I'm close to finished with smallish lights.

Next up is the Lemax XL70 Superpower.

I have owned the black aluminium version since it first came out.

I really love it, no accidental button presses in my pockets.

If you are thinking of buying the rose gold version then consider the fact that it is a lot heavier.

S1 black aluminium - 30g without battery.

S1 titanium bead blasted - 41.5g without battery.

S1 titanium polished - 41.5g without battery.

S1 copper raw - 67g without battery.

S1 copper rose gold - 67g without battery.

I bought a rose gold one and do not carry it in my pockets due to the extra weight.

It has become a collectors item now, a "shelf queen".

Hmm I just tested my S2 and I would say there is 0.2 - 0.25 second delay on mine - but such a small interval that I did not even notice it prior, nor does it stand out to me even now that it was mentioned... For me it's a non-factor (at least with my unit)

If your lag is longer on your unit, do you think it could have been a batch issue or something that was later corrected?
 
I have been edc ing a zebralight sc52 since they came out , ground breaking light- but since buying the olight S1 aluminium and Ti i have not used it again, why?


Its smaller and easy to carry
It,s at least 20% brighter [Li ion] 600 + lumen tested
Better beam profile for close up work- very wide hotspot with equal intensity across the beam
No tint shift across the whole beam- the sc has a yellow corona
One click to medium / longer turbo [high] run time
And much cheaper with 5 yrs warranty.

Olight S1 - is a stand out and has to be one of the best new models for 2015. Bravo Olight.
 
Absolutely love my S1, keep it magnet'ed to the notice board in the kitchen and it's used to bring the bins out, go out to shed, feed the dog, walk the dog, find the dogs poop!

Great light.. and such a small form factor that it is a perfect EDC... infact I have been EDC'ing mine for the last two weeks now because my Spark SF3 has been on loan to my cousin (and is coming back to me this week)... I use it for absoltely everything and have not have one problem with it to date... I really love how small the S1 is, for the power, ease of use and quality. (Waterproof-ness is a must for me in Ireland too)
My ONLY negative, as others have mentioned is the pocketclip... being heads-up isn't ideal in my experience (yes I understand if you want to put this on a baseball cap it needs to be heads up... but really.. that isnt enough reason) ...
When fitted tail-up it doesnt sit flush and is a bit annoying as a result.
A FULLY reversable pocketclip and when fitted is flush both ways... then this thing would be getting a 10/10 from me... 9/10 currently.

Love my S1 so much I bought an S2.

Was disappointed in the S2's (:sick: green tint) so I sent it back.

How can the S1 have such a nice tint/beam and then have the S2 be just the opposite.

Between the large key rings, pocket change and Swiss Army knife, the weight of the light at just over 3 ounces with battery isn't a big deal.

I've been edc'ing the polished titanium version since early December in the watch/coil pocked on my jeans. Other than interfering with my cell phone clip, I don't know it's there.

I placed an order with Going Gear for two of the brass lights and another polished titanium. Got to stop buying lights!
 
I just received my S1 yesterday on a group buy and really like it. I thought it might be too small, but I found it still very usable.

I'm tempted to buy a bead-blasted titanium one with the neutral white LED, but darn the price is a bit steep.
 
Finally had one full day/night with the S1 and love the light, especially for the size. Apologize ahead of time for my comparisons to SC5w in my impressions below.. I bought this light mostly to compare to my SC5w and see if it'll be a good replacement as my EDC for the size and weight difference. But quick summary is I really like the S1 also!


The size and weight of the light is awesome for me as an EDC light. So small and light and disappears in my pockets. My Zebralight SC5w feels like a brick when compared to the S1, as the S1 feels a lot smaller and almost half the weight! I'll switch to EDC the S1 for now. The double edge sword drawback for the tiny size is from time to time it feels like I might drop the light. This is my first light (larger than AAA lights) that I decided not to use the lanyard. Especially when I have to hold onto my toddler for the evening stroll and he starts squirming around I feel like I might drop the light..so I'll go back to the SC5w for these strolls.

The light output is awesome to me, especially for something of this size. The light levels spread is good to me, with big noticeable level differences to my eyes. The S1 is plenty floody to me. I didn't test the throw that much as I'm not using this for the throw anyways, but its pretty adequate for when I took out the trash last night. It doesn't have all the programmable levels as the SC5w, but I don't mind at all because of the spread of levels.

The tint is cool white and not as "nice" as the neutral white (personal preference), but its not so harsh so I don't mind at all. Tint is fine and I don't notice any shifts or whatever in it.

Its also my first TIR light too and as someone else mentioned, I also noticed the beam is a little different. I need to go back to read how or why TIR can cause some difference. But its not a negative or positive in anyway to me.

The interface is nice. I don't mind the interface of not memorizing moonlight since there's a shortcut to it anyways. I like how there's only 3 modes to cycle through and there's shortcuts to moonlight and turbo. And stupid me, I didn't read carefully about the switching modes. I thought it was like my SC5w where if I switch, it's always starts in the order L->M->H->repeat.. My S1 will switch to the next level no matter what level I'm on, so for example, if I'm currently on medium, it'll switch in the order M->H->L->repeat when I switch modes. Its just a different UI and it doesn't matter to me. So far the mode memory seems pretty long (seems to be over 10 minutes). I thought it'll default back to low after a while.

The clip is ok so far. Just tight enough to get into pocket, but with the last half inch or so is pretty tight. Not as bad as the original SC5w clip as that one requires both hands for me to put it on.

The nice bonus is the magnetic tail. Last night, I stuck the S1 on the fridge to provide me some light last night (instead of turning on the main kitchen light) to wash my cup. Useful! :twothumbs But yeah, feels like a fun, bonus feature to me.

Review runtime is not as nice as my SC5w, but its long enough for me for EDC purpose. I just have one RCR123 and I'll just charge it at night (or when I get to work). If I end up using this light a ton, I'll get another RCR123.


Overall I'm liking the S1 a lot based on one day/night of use. Good levels, interface, pocketability and beam to me. I'm currently thinking the S1 will become my EDC light for daytime and at work. The SC5w will be my main light after I get home or if I know I'll come home after dark (or if I have a bag, it'll be in the bag). I have a Thrunite TN12 2014 that'll be my main thrower light when I need that extra power (but may be replaced if I pull the trigger on the newer Zebralights).

Yeah, I don't understand how their engineers didn't catch this shortcomming (design flaw) of the pocket clip (being too tight near the top due to that little protruding notch)... It's the same clip as the S2 and with that I immediately noticed I was having issues pushing the clip down on my thicker style pants and also then removing the light and clip once attached snuggly.

I think I am going to remove the pocket clip altogether from the S1 and just carry it loose in my pocket (which is fairly deep).

Was your cup doing anything interesting while you were in the kitchen watching it with your flashlight?

I'm using the Olight 16340/RCR123A and seems to work fine (but only had the light for 1 full day). Bought from Illumn (since its practically down the street from where I work) and pretty good price. Its a mix blessing finding out Illumn and its location since last November. Been there more times than I'd like to admit... ;-P

I bought two small flashlights together, a Zebralight sc52w and the Olight S1.
I favoured the Zebralight at first but now I seem to reach for the Olight mostly now.
Interesting how some don't like the magnetic cap but this has been very useful on a number of occasions for me.
A cracking flashlight and surely a worthy award winner of some kind I think in this flashlight world.

For me, if both lights are same size, same weight and use the same cells with all else as it is, I'd go with my SC5w.

But as from my impressions, I see myself going for the S1 more often outside home only because of size and weight.
 
It would be awesome if someone could source an aftermarket pocket clip or clip from another manufacturer that fits this light. I lucked out with the S2 in that the clip fron one of my other flashlights fits it perfectly and is much smaller than the factory one... For this particular light (S1), I do not need such a long clip that extends all the way to the top of the bezel (for deep carry) and which runs so far down towards the tail cap.

I don't own any other flashlights with a girth/diameter similar to the S1, so I don't know if anyone out there has a larger collection of lighs with black pocket clips which they could test out on th S1...

Not to mention the abrupt part before that with the lack of a ramp like Nitecore does on their similar clip. Then there is the bezel up bias:thumbsdowTerrible clip design. Really, how many generations are they going to keep giving us that pos:banghead: It is the main reason I wont buy most small Olights.
