S1- like it?

I got the Alu version today after I was unable to get the Ti version here in South Africa.

Do I like it? Very much!

The pictures on the web does not do the small size justice. It is tiny.

Seems like mine remembers moonlight mode, which is nice. I prefer this kind of light to come on in a low setting, unlike my tactical lights.

The UI is quick to learn, the button, while stiff, is not overly so and I am not afraid of accidental activation.

I got a CR123 battery, lanyard and extra o-ring and magnet with the light, so it feels like I got more than I expected.

The clip is not fantastic, I give you that, but it's a minor niggle.

It's getting darker outside, tonight is beam comparison night 😄

Edit - I see the magnet in the packet is not an extra one, but rather there to keep the light stable. I'll probably still find a use for it anyway.

I just received mine today (aluminum, black version)... I have to echo the sentiments of the user aboe me - this thing is tiny and the online photos and video reviews just don't do it's size justice. It's not until you're holding it in your own hand that you can appreciate just how small and compact this light is.

While I really disliked the pocket clip on the S2, I think I'm okay with this similarly-designed pocket clip on the S1 - only because I discovered I can place this light into the small coin pocket of my particular brand of pants that I like to wear - and this pocket has a thinner material than the normal pockets and makes clipping the tight pocket clip to the fabric much easier as well as removing the light.

Overall I am really liking the Baton series from Olight and I'll likely continue to be a consumer of this line of lights should they continue to release updated models moving forward...
 
It's almost 2 weeks since I got this light and as a pocket EDC, love it still. The size, weight and output is just still awesome to me.

The middle of the week taking my boy for an evening stroll through the park (where it gets dark), I used the turbo mode for fun and it lights up decently well a full soccer field (plus a little more) distance away in a pretty large beam area. I was really impressed, especially for something this size. I was grinning like a kid thinking "wow" the whole time.

The clip is really the only down fall for me and would love to find another clip. I tried to straighten the tip of the clip and it broke off. It is also too tight on my jeans to put in and out easily.
 
I have 5 aluminum S1s, one in each of my 3cars, my wife's pocketbook and on the coffee table.
I also have the polished titanium and raw copper in my display case and I gave two aluminum ones as gifts for Christmas.
So, I've bought nine.
I guess I love them. ;)

Would it bother you (aesthetically) to have a silver pocket clip on an all black light? If not, I have a good alternative option...

That's a lot of S1's! Nice... I've only had mine for a few days now and I'm enjoying it... I find it to be an excellent around the house light for my preferences - easy to tail stand... I'll probably opt to carry my S2 on me when I'm away from home, at night... Also making some carry time for my Fenix LD12 (which I still like/enjoy)...
 
Using it, I realise I would have preferred the new UI that does not remember moonlight mode. With the shortcut to get there, I prefer it coming on in low for a short press, and in moonlight for a longer press.

I agree with you.
I have both versions and the new UI remembers the middle setting after using turbo.
The old version stay on high after using turbo so you have to reset it to moon light or low.
When I'm walking I like to switch to turbo to look around sometimes and I'm glad it automatically goes back to the low setting.
 
S1 started my journey to the dark side (flashaholic) and implicitly also led me to CPF. I think it started as an ad in the Facebook flow, and I realized I could use a compact light rather than the odd, old, 2nd generation Maglite LED that I had somewhere...

I find the sturdiness, the form factor and the UI of the S1 very nice. I use it for, amongst other things, as a night light (moonlight mode) when travelling, have one near the front door in my home to easy throw into a pocket when leaving the house, and I keep a brass one in the living room to be readily available.

The only thing that would make it significantly better would imo, be more emitter options. I acquired a high CRI ZebraLight a month ago, and also a Nichia 219B-based flashlight, and those lights are more pleasant to use. Minor improvements would also be a better clip (I've removed mine from all but one of my S1s), a low battery indicator, and a physical design that makes it easier to find the power button.

One of the benefits of using a pocket clip on lights like this is that you can place it in such a position that it allows you to easily feel the location of the side switch / power button. For instance, my pocket clip sits just to the left of the button/switch, and that way when I grab the light from my pocket I always orient the light it in the same position and can easily feel out the button/switch just to the right side of the pocket clip.

I do agree Olight needs to improve their pocket clips and I hope they do so in the future...
 
My clip came oriented to the left of the switch so I just left it. I used to reorient it so my thumb can press the switch. But now, I'm much better pressing with my index (or other fingers) so I don't reorient as much and can still turn on the light. It's still more comfy to do the mode switching with my thumb though.

One change I won't mind in the clip is that little bit right when you've almost clipped the whole light in. That last bit is just tight enough it goes on very difficult for most of my pants.
 
I found that the Fenix 21 mm pocket clip fits well on both the S1 and S2 models... Please note though, if you look this product up on the Fenix sites, they show a photo of a darker finish clip, but they no longer carry this color/finish anymore, and only stock and ship it in SILVER...


Perhaps with the knowledge that a 21 mm pocket clip fits these lights, this would help us source other pocket clip options that would be suitable for these lights..

Ditched the pocket clip, and use the wrist strap. Plain Jane version. Beats H out of my Fenix P1. Got to love the evolution of these little lights.
 
In response to the OP I have to say I really like the S1 but there are reasons that some may not like it. The UI isn't going to be everyone's cup of tea but the biggest issue might be the beam. The optic provides a smooth floody spot but it lacks the throw and hotspot of a conventional reflector.My Zebralight SC32 has a reflector and overall the beam seems to be more capable than the S1 even though the output of both lights are similar.Obviously the S1 is a big success but if you like the beam aspects of a reflector the S1 probably won't appeal to you.
