@this_is_nascar I have experience with Sangean radios, but not that one. I have nothing but good to say about those I own.

Are you familiar with Radio Jay Allen? His review of this radio says "both AM and FM reception to be as good as it gets in this kind of radio." Of course, note the caveat, this kind of radio. I'm sure it is great for local and near AM stations. If you are interested in a particular station that is distant to you, you may just have to find out. I'm interested to see what others say.

I went out to a local lake on Saturday night, primarily to fish, but took my Qodosen DX-286 along to play around with. Being away from interference sources, MW reception on the whip antenna was impressive. But what really blew me away was what happened when I switched over to SW. Signal levels using the short whip antenna were weaker, but there was hardly any fade or interference. It was a better listening experience that what I get at home on my random length outdoor wire.

The signal stability - very little fading in and out - was most impressive. And this was true on most stations that I tuned, from 5 to 17 MHz. I wonder if the small lake was somehow helping out, providing a surrogate ground plane or something?
 
Water absolutely reflects signal. On our office's WWAN, you can clearly see the tides on the signal strength graphs on hops which go across the Gulf or its tributaries. I also run into this issue with cell signals when near the water, where practically every tower near the water will reach the phone, BUT, because of waves and such it's unstable. We've had all sorts of fun tuning the WWAN over the years because of it.

I must say that I'm impressed by quite good AM/FM reception ( from my basement ! )

Did I need one ? No
Did I need two ? No
But ya'll know how it is.

Ok, I've done some real world testing on battery life.
I ran this radio on FM band, at 70% volume, for a total of 32 hours, on a pair of (not fresh) eneloops.
At the end of cell life, the speaker would stutter, like a car running out of gas.
This testing was done at my finish machining job, over 4 days.
Shop is moderately loud, which explains the 70% volume level.
I'll test again using a brand new pair of Duracell alkaline batteries.
I'll post my results soon.
 
Got my hands on a RETEKESS PR15 radio awhile back.
Made a review of it on my main YT channel just yesterday.
Smallest, most compact, FM/AM/NOAA radio out there.
Far from ideal, but if size and weight matters to you; might be worth it.
