I was under the impression that amp ratings on batteries was basically like a circuit breaker, if you buy a high performance flashlight that will call for more current than you require batteries that can withstand more current (IMR). I was under the impression that the driver dictates the current draw, and that you accordingly buy the appropriate battery. And that a battery is nothing more than a pool of energy, and the 'Capacity' of energy is the mAh rating.
Well here's where i'm now so confused...i bought a high current mod, i ask 'Hey so should I buy the 20A rated Efest IMRs or the 35A?' And i was told that the 35A has lower internal resistance therefore it will run at higher current and result in a brighter output. Huh?? Isn't the max amp discharge simply the amount it CAN handle? So does a higher discharge amp rating on a battery mean that it allows itself to be discharged faster? Well if so doesn't that means that the higher amp rating is MORE dangerous not less?
I don't want a battery that's gonna let my light scream with dangerous over current that's totally defeating the purpose...the entire purpose of getting IMRs are to INCREASE my safety!! And I THOUGHT that the highest amp rating meant the safest. I don't consider a battery that's designed to let amps go thru the roof an increase in safety. I just thought 35A rating meant the internals were more ruggedly designed to handle ACCIDENTAL currents of 35 amps (like a higher rated circuit breaker). Can someone straighten me out and help me see what i'm missing please? I don't know which batteries to order. On top of that i checked my old IMRs when i got home and they were 10A lol...my first thought was "I've been running my high output light for years with a 10 amp max and i'm gonna mess with 35 amps am i out of my mind!!?"
