Awesome pics newlumen , thanks for sharing , love the trio line up ! Shame you don't like the mule much but if a thrower guy it would be a tough one. Mules are my fav as so useful, but not used in anger and only on lower modes for long times of use.The triple I have is a daily use in work for everything I do .

yes. you can even charge eneloop AA's at 1.5 v.... may hurt battery life, but I haven't noticed (eneloop=1.2v)

The battery is a proprietary one and should not be used in another charger.

Hey Ven, your love of mules (which I share) makes me want to hear your views on a question. (And I'm happy to hear anyone else's views, too).

I have been doing a project in the crawlspace under my house--pulling out a lot of mouse-infested fiberglass, then installing rigid foam around the perimeter, eventually I'll put down a heavy membrane on the dirt floor. It has been dirty and nasty, and hot inside of a respirator and a Tyvek suit, and I have been very happy to have my H602w MkII on me all the time. I keep it on the lower H2, maybe 300 lumens or so.

But I would also love to have another stationary light to flood the whole place. Here's what I'd like:

I want a mule that will put out 1000-1500 lumens, and do so for an hour or two, without stepping down or overheating.

Vinh makes a ton of lights that will put out that many lumens (heck, that's on the *low* end of his outputs), but most of them step down or get super-hot after 5 minutes, some less. And a lot of them are throwers, which is less useful in an area 6 meters x 10 meters (with a 1-meter roof).

Lights like the new R50 start out at 1200 lumens (stock) on the second mode, which is great. But it will do that for only 12 minutes before stepping down.

So if you wanted a mule or flooder which can put out 1000-1500 lumens at a steady rate for a considerable time, what would you use?

(Oh, and ideally it would have great tint, of course.)

A stock TM06 is rated at 1500 lumens for 4 hours. Not certain if it would need to step down at that output or not.

I would guess that any light giving you that amount of runtime would need at least 3 18650's. A Sky Ray King may be a budget alternative if you want a lower investment.

LampeDépêche, it sounds like you need a Lantern. I have a Fenix Lantern and it sends out light in all directions with no hotspot whatsoever.

You can sit a lantern on the ground or hang it on a nail. Some even have a magnetic base!

Barry G--yes, putting out a level 1000+ lumens for several hours *definitely* requires multiple 18650s.

I have something like a Sky Ray King only better: The Eagletac MX25L3C. Very nice multi-emitter light, running on 3x18650 and Nichia 219bs.
However: it's pretty throwy, rather than floody (the Sky Ray King would be throwy, too), and it also builds up a lot of heat on the two highest levels. Not right away, but after say 15 minutes.

MAD777--nice thought on the Fenix Lantern. The CL25R is very attractive (it's so good that Vinh carries it unmodded!). It's only 300 lumens tops, and I don't know whether it really holds 300 lumens for the full runtime, or drops down ANSI-fashion after an initial run.

Heat management is hard! It's one thing to keep the emitters cool for the first 5 minutes--you can accomplish that by making a good pathway from the emitter to the rest of the body via copper, etc. But after 5 minutes or so, the whole body of the light is hot--and now you have to get that heat *out* of the light, and into the air. Hard to do!

When car camping etc it's nice to turn off the zebras & just have an oil/kerosene lantern and campfire providing the light.

Hey everyone. Just wanted to say hello and ask a few questions. Should I get a ld50vn? Or a different v54 light? Is the ld50vn still available? I have been reading all the posts on this forum for a couple months trying to decide what light to get and I still can't decide. I do have a hl 55vn which I love but I want another light too. It has to be compact, not edc size but I almost decided on sky lumen2. Think I want something brighter than that though. Want it to be at least 2000 lumens( 3 or 4 thousand would be best, mainly throw. I will probably be wearing my headlamp too while using it. I want to be able to see things in my yard and the surrounding forest really well at night. I also want to be able to shine it into the sky and be amazed at how beautiful the beam is:DMy yard is a half acre cleared and surrounded by trees and thick brush. Of course it should take 18650 batteries, I think. 1, 2, or 4 of them. This really is a tough decision. There are so many good options. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks .

I want to comment on a V54 product that is not a flashlight. I recently ordered a V54 cap & V54 tee shirt. The cap for me & the shirt for my 27 year old son who is into Vinh's lights.

Just like the flashlights we are all familiar with, the cap & shirt are top quality and look super! The shirt was a surprise to my son & he was grinning ear to ear like a little kid as Christmas. (So was I with my cap on) LOL

Sounds like fun... it's pretty much what I do every night, minus the headlamp.

I searched Sky Lumen and it looks like the LD50vn is gone, which is lucky for you, because the light you've described is none other than the award winning T6vn! We're talking about a lot of lumens here, and with great throw in a compact size. The beam will put a smile on your face I guarantee.

I have 2 ld50vn different tints. Enormous amount of light and easy to carry. T6vn as wimmer says but the k60vn should not be overlooked! Or be like wimmer and myself and buy them all. Good luck in your hunt.

Trouble is once you get around 1000lm or more , a single 18650 struggles for heat and run times(as you know). So I would want a 4 cell light, compact and either floody or made into a mule by vinh. I am sure he could come up with some good host ideas. I am a fan of the tk75 host, excellent for a mule! The x40vn I have is excellent for flood and having infinite UI, can tweak to the exact output and have good run times(even higher) due to the huge copper heat sink .

How about a cooly host fed on a 26650, as good as twice the mah, more mass for heat and will happily take a p60vn mule .
This has a CQvn 5000k inside

Vinhs p60vn triple nichia 219c I love! Very useful for me every day .


Not tried it in a cooly (at home)as its a work p60 for the flood.
A more compact option to a 4 cell light.

Honestly can't remember Steve , I know a good while back, wasn't this year anyway. The CQvn is well over a year maybe two+ old. Love the CQvn, it's a 4 mode and starts in low which is enough in itself for most task! Very nice tint from the xp-g2's . Had this in work for a good while ages back it seems as a daily work horse .

Wim, you need some encouragement to buy more lights, so I'm going to do it. You're welcome.

I have the PT18vn and it's a keeper! But I have the PT16vn as well and it is much shorter with the same head and tail. Mine is actually slightly brighter on fresh cells than the 18, with a better tint. Get the 18350 version if you can, but mine runs well on 16340 ( both were made by Mecarmy, 18350 was added later. Vinh was selling the 16340 only.)

It's not on the website, but it wasn't when I bought mine either so you never know. :)
