I have a random CPF improvement idea... a Light Owners Database.

Some people have their lights in their signatures, but just imagine if you could easily search for and see what CPF'ers owned a certain light, perhaps one you're shopping for? It'd be a great way to identify who could provide opinions on demand since actual reviews are sparse relatively speaking. We all buy probably a lot more lights than we actually comment or review, but that doesn't mean we wouldn't all answer questions about them, right???

For example, here's a list of at least some of my lights. If anyone has questions about any of them, want me to throw one on the meter, etc...

It's in Her pocket----------------------LMAO

Ouch! [emoji38] chops, you're in the gold medal position for funniest comment of the week!

Steve Wimmer, they are great photos. You're jeopardising your status as the class clown when you post clever stuff. Just sayin'! [emoji6] I'm also from the MAD777 "Missed by that much" school of photography. Now get out and do some beamshots! [emoji16]

hahaha. +1. Good breakdown

Nice shots hahoo!

ty sir

even in the country where i live folks still freak out at times with these lights
one man pulled over on the side of the road where i was shooting one night, told me he owned the field i was shooting across
it was wide open hundreds of acres, no houses around for miles to bother
said for me to leave, got on his phone, called some body on the phone and claimed it was the sherrif
i told him i wasnt hurting his land, wasnt trespassing, was on public property, and asked him what law i was breaking
even tried to shake his hand and introduce myself, and he backed up like i was going to try and do something to him
i told him i was un armed, unlike he was....he was totin a pretty good sized pistol in a holster on his side
he asked me what i was doing several times, and i told him i was testing a few high powered lights out , trying to hit a watertower that was on the backside of his field
he looked at me like i was crazy, and said he had never heard such a story ! lol !
i was going to fire one off and light it up to show him, but he kept telling me i better leave NOW !
any ways, i kept my cool and told him i was sorry if i caused him any harm, slowly packed up all my gear, and left
you would of thought i was out there in my truck doing doughnuts, ripping up his field or something the way he was overreacting!
anyways, glad im not the only one thats nutts over these lights, and i might need you guys to back me up some night if it gets sticky again !

he kept asking over and over again , how can you take a picture of something in the pitch dark that far off ?
i was going to show him, but figured the way he was acting it wouldnt do any good, and he just wouldnt understand.

anyways, sorry for the long rant
just wanted to let you guys know its hard work getting these long range beamshots sometimes!!:D

Wow. Yeah, better safe than sorry there. Though you have to think if you had gotten just a single light fired up he'd think "oh ok!".

I read your long story. Thanks for risking your life for those beamshots.. he could have shoot you or snitch.. but anyway.. you tell him where you buys your lights, then tell him about the cpf. Look like he is not into lights. Lol.

nice shots wimmer:thumbsup:
what camera and lens you shooting with , if you dont mind me asking?
ive tried my hand at indoor sports in the past , and its by far the hardest place to get good pics
you gotta have super fast glass
you guys think these flashlights are expensive, go price out some fast lenses...they are absurdly priced:shakehead
too rich for my blood......

Thanks hahoo. I shoot with a Canon EOS 1-D Mark lll. The lens used in my post are Canon 70-200 f2.8 and 24-70 f2.8 zooms. All my equipment is at least 8-10 years old and has been treated fairly roughly. The lenses definitely need to be serviced but I'll never do it... couldn't get along without then for that long.

The 3 items mentioned, body and 2 lenses, cost me over $7,000. I would love one of the newer bodies... I've been told you can easily push them way way way past 3200 ISO, which would mean I could shoot indoor and night time sports at maybe 500th of a second @ f5.6. I can hardly imagine that.

Hahoo, I was gonna comment about your great water tower shots and then read your story and it gives new life to those pictures. All the more awesome with a crazy story behind it like that!

great job and thanks for sharing (both the pics and the story!)
