interesting to see a black line in the middle of the beam...




Here's half dome lit by a W30 at ~3900m distance from Glacier Point in Yosemite:

Wait what? 3900m? I thought max throw was 2408m on the W30? Even Vinh’s very best modded version at 2.6mcd wouldn’t reach 3900m?

Or are you saying the location of that close up beam shot is 3900m from the tourist attraction, Glacier Point, located in Yosemite? But there wouldn’t be much reason to share that random tidbit of information so I’m guessing the first!???!

That's not a black line in a beam, that's space between two W30 beams.

It is 3900m from light to target. Target is pretty high surface albedo, lighting up was plainly visible to dark-adapted eyes in the quite dark conditions.

If I understand your question to Rasher, you're just trying to figure out why the beamshot of his w30s are throwing 3900m when the stated "max throw" for the w30 is only 2400m. The 2400m is the calculated distance for the beam to produce a light intensity of 0.25 lux. Intuitively, we know that the photons don't just stop at 2400m so there is some measurable intensity of light, even at and beyond 3900m but it's less than .25 lux and that figure can be calculated as well. Essentially, Rasher's eyes and the camera have enough sensitivity to see light hitting Half Dome, that measures far less than .25 lux.:thumbsup:

You darn guys are way to stinking nice to me and I almost PM'd some of you because I'm embarrassed to even quote these undeserved posts. So, with a humble "thank you" I'll also share with you that that I flunked my English classes at community college. :sigh: I'll never understand why I disliked the subject so much. :o
 
@Vinh: ReyLight Triple Ti DawnVN one-off showed up today, just used it on a walk to cigar lounge.

Seriously nice work done on this - you took a light I'd passed on in that past because of its roughness in finish/clip and "meh..." light engine and made it a beautiful little beast.

Very nice beam! Beam tuned on that light was a PAIN. I literally shave the optics footing a bit at a time until the beam was good. Than I sat there and hold it for a while so the glue would set right. W1 is very optics picky.

PS: That Klarus clip light I grabbed along with the above is stupid good for the dollars. Yupppp. Finally people are catting on. I ordered a big box because I thought it was going to fly out but nope. Sales only literally picked up on the HC3 lights. Some are going them in large qualities. My only gripe is I wish the motion sensor cut down from 4in to 1 in to eliminate even less accidental activation. Runtime is amazing too huh?!

TBH, with the case and accessories, I'm not sure how they can do it at that price. A perfect cap light for walking / working on stuff.

My W2 5400K from Kai domain came in and they are pretty much the same tint as as "6000K" W2s I have been using.
