Bottom line, from what I've been reading, we shouldn't have any expectations for a really bright light, whatever that may actually mean to each person.

I believe my (2) SC65c Hi lights are out for delivery.
Sc64w Hi with xhp35 hi is consuming about 13W on H1
Sc65c Hi with 719a is consuming about 9W on H1.
Considering that the 719a consumes noticeably less power and achieves the same throw with proper R9 colour rendering is a big win.
If the xhp35 sc64w hi were to be set to 9W and compared to the SC65c Hi, I am very curious to know what most people would prefer in a beam shot comparison.
I personally never use my lights on their highest setting than for a brief moment. The SC65 will allow you to see just as far with less drain on the batteries in H1 and likely even more so in lower levels. Since our eyes interpret brightness by the intensity of light on the subject of focus, you will most likely always run the sc65c at a lower power than the xhp35 for daily tasks, which means much longer batter life.

After walking in the woods last night, the SC65c HI may be the only SC6* variant I keep! Didn't snag any outdoor beamshots, but here are some indoors. My camera seems to exaggerate the green in the SC64w HI, especially next to a couple of very rosy nichias. The SC65c HI is slightly rosy, but the dedomed 519a in the SC64c LE is extremely rosy (actually a bit much for my taste, and likely skews the perception of the SC64w HI tint).

Yeah I’m glad I decided to pass. I’ll continue rocking my SC64w HI with double the output for same amount of runtime and much better beam quality
I don't trust their run-times very much...
SC65c HI looks like decent real numbers...
The SC64 HI is only 1050 lumens out the front (20% off) Run-times are fantastical...
SC53w claims 198 Lm (2.3 hrs) on an Eneloop Pro. Reality is 1hr 10 mins...
Yep, seems to be mixed reviews on this new one.
Having been in possession of 3 SC62d (not efficient but decent for the time quality color temperature and rendering), using them for years, the newest ZL is certainly near the pinnacle for some people.
HDS is considered to have one of the best resale value of all flashlights. They do not chase the 'my lumens are bigger than your lumens' prize.
It is ok to like high output if you want, but to look down on such a capable flashlight with such high quality illumination...

Lumens are just one part of the whole illumination experience. It mostly comes down to the needs of the individual user, and being able to recognize which features are applicable to certain use cases.
I like this new SC65c HI. It provides almost the same amount of throw as my SC64w HI’s, with 40% less lumens. Very tight beam with great tint and color temp. I could see this being good for mechanics that need good color rendering but work in areas with a bunch of ambient light. The higher candela really cuts through.
It’s a nice compliment to my collection of Zebralight SC64 variants by being the most focused beam and high CRI combined.
SC64w HI is still my favorite variant because the beam pattern and tint works for the broadest conditions I use a light for day to day, as well as my preference for its tint.

Yeah that’s pretty bad
I had an SC62d that was similar way back. I returned it and received a replacement months later. New one was fine, as were 2 more of them that I wore out.

The flicker info in post 5,316 is from two different SC65 lights.. owned by two different people. The flicker was also confirmed by a third person with a third separate SC65. So afaik, all SC65 have this flicker, sending it back for replacement wont make any difference.
Some excerpts in italics from the review link in post 5,316:
"When I first tried the SC65c HI, I was surprised to see a bit of flicker on L4 (lowest L), and I took some measurements with an Opple 4 to confirm it. The data seems to show fairly low frequency pulsing with pulse skipping. L4 tends to vary between 70 Hz and 115 Hz at the big peaks, L3 is around 200 Hz, and L2 is a much higher frequency but with high amplitude, so the pulses are visible in the standard camera streak "PWM" test. By M4, all modes have flat output. I should note that this is not actually PWM, it's pulse-frequency modulation, but the signal is still pulsing."
"The SC65c HI uses a TPS61288 instead of the TPS61088 from all their current generation XHP35, XHP50, and XHP70 driver designs. This is a newer boost IC with higher efficiency, but lower switching frequency."
