I'm just astonished at the kerfuffle this caused. It's just a sign for a place that serves food.

Well, a lot of it has to do with the changes that the "woke" crowd has inflicted on our society. Sports teams name changes, etc. The Bud Lite debacle. Folks are simply fed up with that crap! Cracker Barrel is a beloved restaurant frequented largely by, I would say, older, more conservative folks, who the Progs would classify as "a basket of deplorables". In my opinion, the company execs want to change the culture of their clientele, away from what it is to what they want--I'm guessing now, but I would say a younger, less conservative, less rural, more progressive urban, clientele. I may be way off-base, but that's my impression.
