Anyone have the t17? I’m surprised that Weltool does not have more of a following here. Any particular reason or am I missing something?

Yes, definitely missing something. Not that particular model, but I just finished testing out the Weltool T2 Tac model. Filmed the review, and will be uploading it to my YouTube main channel tomorrow morning. Perfect timing on your part. PM me if you want to know what my channel name is on YT.

Let's just say, some things are good, some.... not so much.

Surely you're one of the mainstream flashlight guys LOL. Gimme a few to figure out which one you are, I enjoy a good sleuthing

Thank you, but the main issue with my channel is that I emphasize blatant honesty, buy all of my own gear, accept zero free stuff, and have zero sponsors. So due to that, my channel is tiny compared to the mainstream guys who make a living off of their channels. I don't. Never have. Been looking for years for a channel like mine in the EDC/Gear review community. Sadly, none found yet. Did ironically find a boots review channel close to my style of reviewing. But nothing else.

I think the biggest issue with your channel is that you don't use any "uh, um, like" bridging sounds, and you speak very purposefully and intentfully. I now hear everything you type in your voice LOL

I recently got the t1 pro v2. Wish the medium was a tad higher on NiMH, wish it was lower on 3.7V 14500, seems about perfect on an olight 2.4V 14500. I regret not getting the battery extension tube for 2xAA, strictly for testing purposes.

I really like the t12 I have. The beam is incredible. I do wish that it had an option for a finger ring. Nitecore makes a clip on ring I am waiting for in the mail to see if that would work.

So, I finally got some more 2.4V lithiums in, and ran a few more tests. The medium produces the exact same intensity whether on NiMH or 2.4V Liion. The high produces roughly double, and the low is 3x the intensity on 2.4V.

I was hoping for a higher medium, maybe I have a dud, maybe the Weltool specs sheet is wrong. Either way.. lux taken at 1 meter:

NiMH:
Low: 135
Med: 1,280
HIGH: 6,740

LI-ion:
Low: 460
Med: 1,280
HIGH: 11,780

According to the manual, Med on 2.4v (a.k.a. 2×NiMH) should be producing 96 lumens at around 4.5kcd, perhaps using 2×NiMH would give me those results, but I don't have the extender to test, nor do I want to risk shorting the cells using the old foil/wire extension trick to close the circuit. Shakey hands and all.

Addendum, extended cold weather usage of the light on the low mode on the 2.4V cell seems to throw the light out of whack, it gets stuck cycling between a 30 lm and 1 lm mode, and sometimes a 10 lm mode in between. To fix this, simply put the included standard 14500 into the light and cycle it a few times...it'll initially be stuck on one mode (highest 500+ lms) but then the other modes will suddenly become available after about 5 cycles, and the other cells will then provide their correct respective brightnesses again.

I got a T17 last month. Consider me extremely impressed.

The build quality is excellent and the light feels exactly as rugged as it's meant to be. In all seriousness, in a SHTF scenario, I'd probably grab it over all my other lights.

I ordered Weltool's deep carry clip for it because the standard clip makes for a very shallow carry, but that's the only (very minor) issue I have.

Definitely won't be the last Weltool I buy. I'm thinking of the T12 Plus next, but I'm not sure of the wacky UI and modes.

Flat runtime at 600 lumens, no dimming BS, what's not to like?

Bringing this back. Just got a t17 from going gear. Very impressed. This thing is solid. My only complaint is that when I took the pocket clip off, it took off a little anodizing, but all my lights get used and beat up over time. Highly recommended. Very good use of 600 lumens with the beam pattern.

Also, a cloud defensive deep carry clip fits on this with an o ring.

Based on my recent continued experience with my weltool t1 pro v2, I'm not sure that I can recommend weltool as a brand anymore. The UI is messed up, and turns on in full throttle only unless I leave the light on for 15 seconds, which then it properly drops back down to medium, and the standard UI works again. It could be a battery issue, it could be a hardware issue, IDK. But at close to $50, it's a shame that such a great form factor light would suffer such a functional issue.

Have you attempted sending it in for a repair.

They only responded with a basic troubleshooting through my point of purchase, but have since ceased all communication. It seemed like the repair and warranty was going to be a no-go anyways, so I'm going to keep it regardless, and gut the electronics for something else.

The distributor I bought it from had EXEMPLARY customer service, they went above and beyond to try and resolve the issue. It was a personal choice that I felt that even if that distributor is responsible for selling a malfunctioning product, such a responsive and courteous company should not have to eat the costs of a non-responsive manufacturer.

It's one thing for a manufacturer to not answer a customer, but to not answer one of your distributors, **PARTICULARLY about a defect or issue? That's business suicide.

Just being silly, not targeting nor making fun of anyone.
I'm not a big fan of the Chinese gear and I don't know if I'm ready to admit that I may or may not have their SF EDC1-DFT attempt (can't remember the name right now). Single mode compact thrower.
I take it fishing (only time I use it).

Edit. It’s an LH1 with BB6 and TC70 (head, body, tail).

My assessment is; don’t buy.
It’s close enough to SF money but well short in substance.
Should have stuck to my instincts on this one. I was curious.
One of the two Weltool branded 18350 batteries died in short order. I attempted to revive it a couple of times and gave up on it for safety concerns.

Well, I was a fool.

Hey, if your name was Kung, you'd be Kung Foo. Or Foo Kung...your preference, brother Foo.
