What is your LED EDC used for?

In order to get to and from work, I walk about a mile on an unlit path through some parkland and residential areas to reach the subway station. So I always carry 2 lights and some spare primaries with me year round. However they stay in my bag at work. I got weird looks the one day I carried my TK11 around in my pocket around the office

Walking the dog at night
Taking out the trash
At work in ceilings pulling cable
under desks and in electrical closets terminating cable
working on my or someone else's computer.
As a "go to" when the weather is bad.
Checking on my kids in the middle of the night
Doing just about anything where I can't see (which is most of the time except in broad daylight)

Finally, when I'm done with all of that;
it makes a really nice toy!

My EDC is used to bring a smile to my face! Whether that be lighting up an object/walkway or just to fiddle with its all the same to me!

I drive an 18-wheeler, and I use my EDC to check various parts of the truck before I drive -- things like the 5th wheel, to ensure I don't lose the trailer at 60+ MPH! In the middle of the night, I sometimes use my EDC to check the time, find the phone, etc., while in the sleeper. It's just beyond handy to have a flashlight with you all the time, and yet you just don't realize it until you try it.

mine is mainly used to blind myself  dont really have any use for it but i try to use it for work looking behind computers or under desks. and for emergencies. an example was when my gf's bathroom light blew up a few weeks ago and i had to use my D10 for showering and stuffs. and that was the time when she didnt mind me carrying my lights :)

I used mine a couple times today. At night to find the bathroom. And to look in the trunk for Christmas presents.

My EDC is not for any particular purpose but I do seem to use it a lot for various odds and ends. Once you EDC a light long enough you begin to wonder how you could ever have lived without one. Lights come in very handy.

I use mine to check the house at night, light the way for my wife to her car, and to check on my 2 and 4 year old daughters.

Often heard at family gatherings, "Dale, where's your light?"

I don't generally need my EDC throughout the day, but when I need it I am glad I have it. I am a computer tech and there are times when I need to crawl under a desk, remove the side from a PC and take a look at the fans/heatsinks & capacitors to see if there is a possible cause of a crashing PC. Sometimes the CPU heatsink will be so clogged with dust that the CPU is overheating, sometimes the capacitors on the motherboard are bulging and I have to tell the customer that the M/board is stuffed, sometimes a fan is not spinning.

Then there is my free time where I might ride to a motorcycle rally and camp overnight - it is pretty sweet being a flashaholic when you are camping.

- Picking peanut shells off the floor in the dark
- Getting up to take a leak in the middle of the night
- Opening up the front door of a house
- Opening up the door of a vehicle
- Retrieving items from a flipped over truck in the middle of winter storm night
- Flashing the blind as a bat pizza guy with strobe.
- Checking for drugs, or empty alcohol containers underneath your kid's bed:rolleyes:

Exactly. You EDC something because you might have to use it. If one edc a weapon, I don't think that person is looking forward to use it. Better have it and not need it, than need it and not have it (ok, maybe not so much true for lights).

Thanks.

Exactly. I actually found this forum on my regular forum, defensivecarry.com. We all carry concealed handguns over there...and more and more of us are finding that a EDC flashlight to go along with our EDC weapon just makes sense, since a lot of crime happens at night, in the dark. It seems criminals much prefer the darker places!

I'm glad I joined this forum though (this is my first post actually) because even without a handgun it seems having an EDC light can be used as a formidable weapon (cren bezel, blinding/disorienting), and definitely in conjunction WITH a handgun is an excellent combination. I think you CPF'ers will see more and more new members from defensivecarry, as the lighting sub forums over there are getting pretty hot! Not wanting to be a salesperson, but those of you that carry a light for protection etc. should check out those forums and get in on the weapon/light combo!

That quote above is also my signature in the other forums, and is my standard answer when I'm asked "why do you carry a gun". I actually never carried a flashlight before, but I'm sure I will be asked the same question about it, and they will get the same answer.

All of these other uses are great examples, and I can just think of all the times I've been doing something and though "####!!......If only I had a flashlight!!"

Ordered a JetBeam Jet-III M, 4 AW18650's and a W139 today from BOG shipped NDA, hoping they will ship it today so I can have it by the new year...then I can join you all and actually be a real CPF'er!!

I work security in a large outdoor area, mainly at night.

I use my lights so I don't trip over objects in the road when I need to get out of the patrol-vehicle. Also, the feathered wild life likes to use the private road as their toilet. :toilet:

(Used my Olight M20 Warrior just a few hours ago, to spot the goose $#^% littered all over the road). :ironic:

Some moments when my EDC REALLY saved the day

I was walking my boss's dog while I was house/pet sitting for him and I actually ended up using the strobe on my L2D (OMG yes the much maligned strobe does serve a function) to break up a fight that almost occurred between him and an even meaner looking dog. Needless to say, I was glad my light was there so I didn't have to tell my boss his dog got injured/killed under my watch.

Watching the Pacquiao/De La Hoya fight with my friend's outdoor projector set up (there's about 50 people in the house wathing it on a 52" and 32" HDTVs set up in two separate rooms). The sound cuts out and I ended up using my P1D to help my friend fix the wiring on the speakers. Just in time to see De La Hoya get destroyed in the 6th 7th and 8th.

Evening beach bonfire party, playing the role of the DJ with my harman kardon go play and Ipod.

Evening beach bonfire party, using the strobe function and a variety of different colored beer bottles as dance lighting to impress the French and Argentinian exchange students who happened upon our bonfire.

Lighting for an impromptu tour of sutro bath ruins next to the San Francisco Bay after beach bonfire party, with the exchange students.

Finding a secluded place to make out with Virginie, the marine biology major from Lyon.

Helping my friend find his missing car keys, so I can take Virginie home with me.

It's amazing how one evening could make the importance of an EDC abundantly clear.

So remember fellow flashaholics, keep your light nearby in case you encounter muggers and hot foreign exchange students.

I'm sure glad I almost know what to do with my D10 now. With experience and this forum and a little
trial and error I find exceptionally suprising uses for it. Forinstance before we bought winter tires I went
out to read the tire size about mid morning with tires on the sunny side and could barely see which part
of the tire it was printed on due in part to it being cloudy at the time so I lifted the d10 from my belt
holster and found when held at the right angle it made the print outstandingly visible. I have found
several instances where an EDC has made the day, even in broad daylight, just that much more
pleasant being that much more prepaired with a litle funshine in the pocket, or in my case a Fenix belt
holster. BTW, I ENC (every night cary) my D10 also, but this was an EDC question.
Thanks all who contribute to the forum, a welth of information!
