Run it over lines on a paper clothing pattern then pin the pattern to the fabric. Bounce a pounce bag (loose weave cloth filled with chalk, finely powdered charcoal, or cornstarch) along the pattern lines then when the pattern is removed the fabric has lines of dots to cut along.

horns, hooves, and claws are basically fingernails...cut too deep and you nick the bed. same goes with birds, dogs, cats, etc...
