I saw this Casio on a member's wrist over at WUS.

Thought I'd post it, as it's a good looking Casio with a 10 year battery life, and 100M water resistance for <$50.00 bucks.

Picked up the Ti Timex Expidition for an absurd discount, directly from Timex. I think they must have had a pricing error, but after almost a week, they shipped.

Came with a nuclear green FKM two-piece strap to match the second hand. That came off immediately, but I'll probably use the signed Ti hardware from it on another band, once I find one the watch likes best.
For now it's this leather NATO from Zuludiver. Works well enough on it.

It's a nice bit of kit, great slabby cushion case style, almost a tonneau. Light as a feather and has surprisingly good bezel action (the achilles heel of many Ti watches).

Rocking the MK1 today.
I went round and round about picking up a Hamilton, couldn't decide between the Auto and the Mechanical, was leaning mechanical, but heard too many complaints about the keyless on them, so was hesitant.

Also, I wanted a proper "field watch". Something for working in the swamp, and I just wouldn't do that after paying Hamilton money. Not that they aren't worth the dosh, but I just ain't gonna beat on them.

Now, the real fieldwatch these days is a G-Shock, but I still wanted something w/ gears and whatnot, just because I lean that way.

After a lot of thought and rumination, I ended up grabbing a Timex.

Auto, shorter lugs than the Hammy, 40mm is my sweet spot. Nice historical provenance. The price was right for something I will actually use in the elements and not worry too much.
But what really sold me was the sweet acrylic crystal they use.

Yeah, it scratches easier than Sapphire, but a bit of polywatch polishes that right out.

I'm pretty happy w/ it.

At long last... a "classic" Casio square-ish digital watch lands on my wrist. I figured that whatever my watch collection contained, a classic Casio square of one variation or another needed to be a part of it.

This one (B640WD-1AV) is a little bit updated from the original design, fairly unobtrusive with regard to written declarations around the bezel...

and nicely updated with even illumination from both sides of the dial...

And, the quick and easy bracelet sizing feature is wonderful!

I think this basic, digital, budget time keeper will be seeing a lot of my wrist-time.

(Though it offers timer, stopwatch, and alarm functions, I don't see myself using it for anything but just the day, date, and time.)

Tissot Seastar 1000 Chronograph 45.5mm 300M water resistance. Screw down crown on all 3 buttons. I was afraid it would look bigger than it does. Pleasantly surprised. It is weighty though.

MUCH better visibility than the Timex Chronograph I bought. This will be a true test of "Do you like a chronograph?". It's quartz not mechanical to keep costs down for testing.

Tissot Seastar 1000 Chronograph 45.5mm 300M water resistance. Screw down crown on all 3 buttons. I was afraid it would look bigger than it does. Pleasantly surprised. It is weighty though.

MUCH better visibility than the Timex Chronograph I bought. This will be a true test of "Do you like a chronograph?". It's quartz not mechanical to keep costs down for testing.

Good looking watch. Congrats on the pickup.

Nice feature with the screw down crown and pushers. Really like how they designed the realestate on the face, that it's mostly dial. Easily readable at a glance. Yeah, nice pickup! ...

Found a black one on Jomashop (on a leather strap). Price was very tempting. Quartz doesn't give me a pause, as it has it's advantages.

First day wearing it and I love it. Very easy to read. The bezel has satisfying clicks in one direction. It's a lot shinier than what I'm used to. I need to try it on a strap. Maybe get an Isofrane.

Jomashop is where I got it. Never Retail!

So my "Do you like a chronograph" experiment is working out. The short answer is YES.

Caveats are minimal. There must be outstanding contrast. The White hands on black dial work. The sub dials being black helps also. It's very easy to glance at the watch and catch the time. If you are using the chronograph you are paying more attention to the sub dials and don't really need them to be a jump out at you color.

The Seastar 1000 Chronograph is great! But...the bracelet leaves a bit to be desired. With both my Seiko and Hamilton the bracelets have a little bit of lateral movement / twist. This helps them move with your wrist and provide a bit of comfort. The bracelet in the Tissot is stiff. No lateral movement. Making it dig in rather than move with your wrist. It's sized correctly, but this makes it uncomfortable.

It is VERY comfortable on a single pass NATO strap, as any watch with one is, but the sheer size of this thing makes a thin strap look odd. In comes the Flourorubber (FKM) band. Thicker, softer, and even more comfortable while supporting the weight of this large watch.

EDIT: All hands are silver. I don't know why they look that odd color.

I was on a road trip. The young barista at the rest stop was a stranger to me. He said “you have a very nice watch”. This is the first time such a thing happens to me. Too many feelings rushed simultaneously. Surprise, pride, self-consciousness, thankfulness, embarrassment … He was not loud. No one else heard but I felt like everybody did. I hesitated to formulate an appropriate reply, after thanking him. I simply asked if he was a watch guy. He said he inherited a few watches from his grandfather and he is a beginner. There was no way to chat with him. There was a que and he was busy.

When sipping my coffee, I was perfectly sure that nobody was interested in my watch but I still tried to not draw attention without looking like trying to hide my watch. This was a hopeless case with a polo shirt but was my watch indeed that nice? Really? I now wonder if my watch became nicer to me due to the appreciation of this young barista or was it already a watch to be appreciated even by a total stranger. This question has nothing to do with what watch it was. This is a universal paradigm regarding watch enthusiasm.

I'm also one who eschews chronographs unless they are designed for quick and easy readability at a glance. Tissot did a good job on the readability of your chrono. I find chronos like the panda styles to be relatively poor for easy time readability. Contrasting sub-dials are a distraction from just reading the time.

Found a pretty good review on the Seastar Quartz Chrono. Love the blue dial.



Really like the Seastar 1000 Automatic, but kind of wish it had the quartz engine. Great dimensions: 40mm x 12.48mm with 20mm lugs (according to Jomashop's description, but the vid says it's 21mm), and lug to lug at 46mm: Tissot Seastar 1000 Automatic Black




But, ... Jomashop $249.00 price on the Black Chrono on leather is really tempting: Tissot Seastar 1000 Chronograph Quartz

I'm thinking Ted Su's Soft Style Strap (I think he stopped selling these straps. The straps I have are from 12 plus years ago) and Buckle would look great on the Chrono.

I did the exact opposite all mechanical then to digital analog mb6 G shocks . But I still have both and wear both, variety the spice of life
