wireless battery charging

wireless touchless charging, for example via bluetooth.

Does anyone use this charging technology? How well does it work, is it an efficient method of charging?



i know a multi chemistry round battery charger with internal bluetooth module for sending/receiving energy :naughty:

My tablet will take induction charging but alas cannot find a charger to buy in a store and i want to buy it at retail not mail order.

Bluetooth is not a good technology for wireless charging, it will take years to charge a phone.:)

Bluetooth cannot be used for charging (Except with very low power), it is a low power wireless transmission protocol.

Apparently this is some new technology that utilizes the same frequencies as bluetooth and wireless, but is based on completely different transmission technology.

Here is a brief quote from the article linked above:

"The device employs the same frequencies used by Wifi and Bluetooth to send magnetic charges to designated devices or hotspots.
During his presentation, Zeine was able to remotely charge an iPhone 5 with one of his prototype wireless transmitters. Zeine believes the Cota is “the only wireless power technology that can deliver one watt of power at a distance of 30ft safely."

Does anyone use this charging technology? How well does it work, is it an efficient method of charging?

I do. Or have, actually. I charged them this way for about a year. I stopped charging my phones (the wife and I) wirelessly a few months ago though.

I have two different brand Qi chargers. We have Galaxy S4 phones.

They worked, but were a bit temperamental. If you didn't place them on the pad in exactly the right spot, charging would/could be intermittent. But I did find one pad and one phone that worked pretty consistently. It also takes about twice as long to charge compared to plugging them in.

Because of the inconsistencies, the excess heat that is generated and the extended charge time, I stopped using them.

Qi chargers use NFC and operate at a distance of only about 8mm. This "wireless charging" seems to be something completely different. I know nothing about it, but it will be interesting to see how it turns out. (I think I read in the article that they hope to have consumer products available in 2015.)

EDIT: Sorry, I hadn't looked at the original YouTube video. As it turns out, *that* video is about "normal" Qi charging. But then, in an subsequent post, the OP then posted a link to an article about another rather interesting "emerging technology" that seems both pretty amazing and potentially useful: wireless charging at distances of 30 ft!
