I vote: You show No Pictures of a thing! Just show the things specs! Then ship them things out. That would make the whole thing really trick. Then when the thing comes in, and wife sees the box and says: "Whats in this thing", we (us married ones) can say, "I don't know, it's just some Thing"!

Sounds fun! I don't have a wife, but I still like surprises. Sometimes I leave the flashlight in its shipper on the table for a little bit just to build suspense.

Hehe...
No worries there as I'm not planning on releasing any photos or even specs prior to shipping either "Thing-O, Thing-E".

So you'll be able to confidently and honestly say you're buying some-thing, and you have no idea what it is (well maybe some idea) :D

Guy,

Are you accepting payment soon?

I guess I'm not the only one who prefer to throw cash in and forget about it.
Then someday, somehow, someone will be getting something it his/her mailbox and wonder where it came from.:welcome:

Hi eurypylus,

Sorry, not just yet.
Needing a little more time to finalize "what" will be in the sending plan.

Thing-O: confirming Ti samples
Thing-E: confirming PCB components

Just a few weeks aways though.

Hey Guy,

Nice to see that you've settled in into your nice and cosy MBI Tribe Subforum. At long last. Sweet!

Well, sure looks like this Thing is a runaway success... Even if most of us still have not figured out what it is. Yet. :)

As always, if you're planning to make MBI goodies for sale. Make lots. :D

Update:

Mechanical design for "Thing-Ultimate" looks to be complete.
It's looking like 6 parts for machining (and possibly a sub-miniature 7th depending on components)
1 part that requires molding, some o-rings, crazy but beautifully simple PCB, a couple of microscopic 1mm diameter screws (not even sure how I'm going to even see those yet) and my head is spinning big time from rotating in 3D non-stop for the better part of eternity.

Hopefully, that's enough to entirely confuse you all completely

Hi Guy!

Will the Ultimate be the same price point? If not, how much are you thinking for this version?

Usually buying something that I am not completly sure of is not my thing,
but count me in for one too.

Hi SA Condor,

Thanks for the question, let me address that in a new post shortly for easier find-ability later on.

Re: MBI: "Thing" - My newest, top secret "the product with no name"

Update:

Thing Versions and Pricing

Thing-Ultimate is significantly more complex with some crazy tolerances and several more components on the PCB so it will be a different price point. The standard Ultimate version will likely be an aluminum-alloy and I plan to offer a Ti version also. The Aluminum version will likely be ~2X Thing-O, Titanium version about ~3X.

Thing-O and Thing-E, whilst significantly different in material, form and size (these are much smaller) to the Ultimate, will be closer together in price but as Thing-E will ultimately need a mold at quantity, it may be more expensive than Thing-O depending on final format tests and mold costs. The smaller things are perfect as they are and whilst the heart of all things is the same, Ultimate has tweak-able configuration options.

Thing-Ultimate, due to the complexity and cost may very well be born directly in a CrowdFunding campaign (and I plan to offer both Thing-O and Thing-E there too).

Re: MBI: "Thing" - My newest, top secret "the product with no name"

tgwnn, one question that shouldn't be a big spoiler: Will it blend??

No just kidding, Can any of these Things have tritium luminous devices installed as a option? Probably not since it is likely made with nanofibers and graphene with microscopic sizing and assembled with the nano tolerances you speak so elegantly of.
