To CSpence up above:

Thing about the TOOLvn--it's a wonderful light and a great WOW light. But the 10440 battery holds *very* little capacity. You are not going to be able to use it on anything like high for very long.

Part of the problem here is that Li-Ion makers lie about their capacities. I mean, I hate to put it so bluntly, but that's basically it.

So the top end for a quality 16340 IMR is going to be around 550mah, maybe 600mah, not the 700 that some print on their labels.

And the capacity of a 10440? No way is it 400mah. I will be amazed to see that any of them have more than 200mah, 250mah tops.

So you should figure that the 16340 format has about 3 times the capacity of the 10440 format.

Run times will be very short for the TOOL. A great back-up light, a great show-off light, but not the one to get you home.

Thank you! I honestly didn't really think about the practicality side of things in terms of battery life. I'll tell Ya, there are just too many choices from Vinh! I've been looking at the M30Cvn now...seems to be much more of a light, throw and flood, 18650, but likely a little big for EDC. And now that you mention the battery life, I imagine the 18650 would drain pretty quick on that light as well with the (3) emitters. Maybe I should just buy them all! If I could only afford that lol....

If you want decent battery life the M30Cvn XPL HI gets almost 40 minutes with an LG3500. The TX25C2vn has excellent battery life with an XML2 PDT.

This flashlight is calling me. ;)
It seems to have the most to offer, in this diminutive size category. I see only praise for this light in the postings.

I have the de-dome and it's a great little pocket thrower for its size. Also one off gunga which has a slightly warm neutral which is nice and floody . Both i like a lot and both have a different beam/tint . Both suitable for every day uses but I like a choice to break things up. Now with the choices I would defo go for vinhs driver and of course depending on flood, throw or both would determine the led choice. Not forgetting tint:)

Imo it's worth getting a couple of different ones to rotate on edc duty

Be interested to know the difference of the moonlight mode. I have an AL version without the Vinh driver as well.

I do have moonlight on both, I have my mode group to start in moon without memory on both too. Both fed efest IMR cells which does not effect lowest modes like on some.

I'm looking for something a bit floody for this light with lots of lumens. Color needs to be near 5000K for sure. Throw will be the tie-breaker if necessary.

The picture below is Selfbuilt's review of the stock D25C in both the XPG and XML versions, at two exposure settings. I like the bottom beamshots (XML), showing a large hotspot in a very flooded field. I want avoid the top beamshots (XPG) with the tighter hotspot and weaker spill surrounding it.

I wonder if the XPL option would result in the same beam shape as the XML pictured above? I think the XPL might add a few more lumens, but I don't want to lose that beam shape.

You have one with the driver and one without?

If so, which has the lowest low?

Being different LED's and as far as i know both the same ET driver, just vinhs has a current bump, its hard to tell as the de-dome is more concentrated still.

I just set them to both come on low with no memory via the head twists, either from tight or loose x3 iirc(been a while since i changed the mode).

I have a 2015 version that came with the xpl on copper, and I installed driver vn in it. I run it with imr 16340 batteries. if anybody would like it, I can take any beam shots you would like to see. Just let me know. I love mine!
