Hi folks,

Does anyone know anything about the apparently new Olight S30R Javelot?
I can`t find anything on the official website, but some dealers seem to sell already and I find it on amazon too...

The specs look pretty awesome:
CREE XP-L HI CW with 900 lumens
264m throw and PBI of 17500 cd. Can anyone confirm?

Only negative is the proprietary custom battery... does run on normal 18650s but no in-light charging then. Is it possible to mod so regular 18650s could be charged?

Interesting, thanks!

Can you (or anyone) say a little more about the charging dock system Olight uses? I can see the downside -- in-light charging only with custom battery, plus you have to carry around the dock. But I imagine there's upsides, too... what are they? My first guess would be, they can keep the light shorter since they don't need an extra 1/3" body length for a microusb port. What else? Does the charging dock itself have a USB port on it to daisy-chain charge something else? Any other reason Olight would go this route?

I just ordered the non-rechargeable version of this light. The specs are impressive. I have the Olight S10 baton which is one of my favorite lights. They seem to produce a good quality product.

Why does everyone say the Olight R series have proprietary batteries?

Aren't they regular 16340 or 18650?

I remember reading that the charging dock only works with a customized 18650 battery. I just looked it up, and see that the include 18650 battery has both the positive and negative terminals on the same side of the battery. So, definitely proprietary for use with the charging dock. I'm guessing standard 18650s work fine in the light but can't be charged via the dock.

Seems to be just the 18650 size they won't support standard batteries, same as the FourSevens lights.

I have the S15R, and it works just fine on the dock with an AW 14500.

David said there were too many low quality 18650 cells around to risk letting the user choose a cell to charge on their dock. I don't care for this solution, and I hope it does not propagate to the smaller lights as well. This is a cool system, especially for those not educated on Li-Ion care. But it is just darn convenient for anyone - plop it on the base, grab it off when the light is green. No threading, rubber port covers or fragile connectors to deal with.

Ik think it does support standard 18650s, it says so on the picture of the specifications lower-middle under battery replacement: "If the pre-installed rechargeable battery runs out of power, user can insert other batteries such as 2x CR123a of 1x 18650 with protection beard in the light." So it does run on standards, just wont charge them...

I've had the "normal" S30R Baton II on my bedside table since it came out this summer. Looks exactly like this light with an emitter swap. The battery is most definitely proprietary. Modifying another battery to work with this charging setup would be tricky, and probably dangerous. Here's a comparison photo - S30R battery on the left, normal Olight 18650 on the right.

Yes the light will work with any cell you put in it, but it'll only charge the special cell. Its still a great light though, even though I'm not wild about proprietary batteries either. The combination of "full-power" 18650 size, great UI, magnetic tailcap and handy charging base is hard to pass up. Its also an easy light to mod if that's your thing. Mine's had a nice warm white XM-L2 5C emitter in it for months now.

You are correct, the light will work with a standard 18650. When I say "support", I am referring to the charge base feature. This is what is unique about these lights, and if you don't use the proprietary battery, you might as well not get the "R" series light.

If the 17500 cd are true, in combination with the orange reflector, this could be almost the perfect EDC light.
Good size (shorter than Nitecore EC20 and P12) , absolutely nice balance between throw and flood (25000 cd like Nitecore P12GT is to much for an EDC light) , good transition between beam and spill due to the orange reflector, nice space levels (a would like to see a 200 lumens level).
Also a nice feature with 900 lumens instead of 1000 lumens, this like I hear from a local Olight dealer was specially made for improved runtime.

Next month will be my next flashlight in my collection, hope to be still available to my dealer.

PS: I don't know if I'm crazy or just addicted to flashlights (or both...), in last month I bought three new flashlights...a lot of money in a short period, my wife will kill me if she know how much money I've spent (I take care with the invoices to remain in my office, never order delivery at home :)) )

Got mine today, I like it a lot ! In this moment I think is the best balance between throw and flood for an EDC flashlight, because of the orange peel reflector the beam have a nice transition to spill, but is also well defined, the led is perfect centered.

I made some beam comparison with Nitecore SRT6 (rated at 17000 cd) , and Nitecore EC20, this jewel have 17000 cd for sure. I didn't make pics outside, but from what I see, it outhrows by a little the SRT6 , nice :)
In pics bellow the color is not ok, my photo camera is not set properly, in reality is the opposite ! SRT6 have a colder beam and spill than S30R Javelot.

Premium quality from Olight.

Only two minus points from me
- level 4 rated at 400 lumens in reality have 500+ lumens and because of this is not so much difference between level 4 and 5 (900 lumens which I believe is close to reality)
- the charger stops at 4,24 V, a little to high for 18650 3,6 or 3,7V.

Pics below :)

Nice pics!:) It would be even better to see outdoor comparisons pictures of the S30R Javelot and the SRT6. I have the S30RII and the Nitecore SRT7. The SRT7 is the better thrower than the S30RII, but the S30RII has a more floodier beam.

I am thinking about buying the S30R Javelot when it is available at Ebay. So from your personal opinion the S30R Javelot is not a completely thrower, it has good flood/side spill light to?

I hope tonight or these days after work to make some outside pics SRT6 vs S30R Javelot (unfortunately we are at 8 hours difference in time zone )

S30R Javelot is not a completely thrower, the 17500 cd from what my eyes see are real, but it has also a good spill, the spill diameter is like Fenix PD35 TAC (which is big), so it has a nice usable spill.

Below you can see a spill comparison with PD35 TAC , S30R at 80 lumens and PD35 TAC at 200 lumens (~2,5 meters).
Also a beam comparison, S30R Javelot has a lot more concentrated beam. From the pics the color is opposite ! S30R has a little warmer beam and spill than PD35, must check the settings on my camera

PS:
In description it says that S30R Javelot has a thermal temperature sensor which measure in real time the temperature (to be comfortable in hand), the step down depending of the internal and external temperature...well...in real life (till now) I didn't notice that, the flashlight gets hot on turbo (uncomfortable to hold in hand near the head) without stepping down, I hold it like 7-8 minutes than stoped because was hot
To the Nitecore lights this detail work (on their ATR technology )
