Dammit, why can't batteries charge faster??

Meanwhile, I'm going to put up some size comparison pics with the tn36vn.

lastly, the positive contacts on both ends are a shade recessed so remember, BUTTONTOP ONLY!

12/8/16 finally got some beam shots.

I wanted to include the mm15mbvn with these 2 lights but being flooders, the beams take up space and my room wasn't big enough for all 3. My first impression of both these lights side-by-side is that they are both freakin bright as hell! Another thing i noticed is that the x7vn has a much tighter beam profile compared to the tn36vn. This obviously helps boost the lux. Another thing I didn't know was that the olight has a glow-in-the-dark ring inside the bezel! It doesn't last too long but it is definitely a neat effect!

So, here is a wall shot of the tn36vn (left) and the x7vn (right). note that my tn36vn is nw and my x7 is cw.

and after a few seconds of fumbling my heated bed might have warmed up the lights enough for them so step down already...

The hotspot on the x7vn is noticeably larger than the tn36vn. in contrast, the spill on the tn36vn is larger than the x7vn. got a better pic showing this below.

the olight glows after i turn it off!!

It was actually much brighter at first. it dims down pretty quickly.

here's an against-the-wall of the lights to show their spill sizes. both lights are on their lowest output modes. tn36vn (left) x7vn (right).

One thing I should mention is heat. x7vn definitely gets hotter faster than the tn36vn. These pics were taken on new mj1 batteries that were fully charged yesterday and left unmolested til tonight when i installed them to take the pics. Afterward, I let both lights cool off for 30 mins before blasting them back onto turbo again. On the 20 second mark, there is unmistakable warmth at the head of the x7 with the tn36 a few seconds behind it. by the 1 minute mark, I can't comfortably hold the x7vn by the head while I can still manage the tn36vn. After about 1 minute 10 sec, the tn36vn was uncomfortable to hold.

So, yeah, I can't really say which one I like better. tn36ut has the tailcap lockout, has a wider range in spill, and has a battery holder/handle that's compatible with my tn40vn. The olight has drivervnx2, a wider and more useful hotspot, has a more squishy and somewhat more easier feeling button (as on the manker u21vn, I've been finding myself liking this style of button more and more).

It sounds like I can expect around 4,000 lumens for 15-20 minutes which is enough for me. I said the "I can expect to get" because I broke down and got one on the Thanksgiving sale. Now that it is getting a little colder up here in northern Wisconsin I might be able to get a couple extra minutes of 16,000 lumen fun. I was out last night at 35 degrees with 25 mph wind with my T6 and I really wish I had my X7vn. Are you listening Vinh?

Nice comparison eekazum. I love the x7VN. For a mega flooder it really has a touch of throw to it. I had the TN36UTVN for a short while and still have an original TN36 NW. If nothing else, the driver VNx2 in x7VN, for me, puts it over the top. I'm sure you've had a chance to go out and compare these two side by side in the dark by now. Any thoughts on the beam comparison in actual use?

to be quite honest, I haven't really got to try any practical use tests with them. I took them to work a few times and all I can say is they both have that WOW factor and that the X7vn is definitely brighter and reaches further but beyond that, I can't say which I'd prefer. Being flooders, the bigger hotspot of the x7 isn't that much of an advantage over the tn36vn in close ranges. If pressed for an answer, I'd lean toward the x7 because 1) the extra throw and 2) the tint (I'm still a cw guy!).

hope that answers your question!

Just ordered this x7vn last week. I am so excited. It will be the brightest in my collection. What is the typical ship time for this light?

3 days tops for the post office to pick up in Washington on the west coast to drop it off with me on the east coast. Build time was only 2 days. Might be longer depending on where you are on the list and how much he has on his plate

Did you get a shipment notification? I bought it on Feb 2.

1. Best bet is to email Vinh and ask him how it is coming along. :)

0. After all these months, I still daily and nightly think about wanting to add this item to my collection.

I sent him mine to get modded, so you might want to check with him if he has stock. I did get a notification but don't remember if it was for this light (I had a few show up the past week

Update! I just heard from Vihn! My light is complete and on the bench to be torture tested. Truly a great day
This will be my brightest in my collection. This is my first light from him. The closest thing I have is a TN36ut at 7000 lumens. I have never held the sun... This will be amazing.

Emphasis added. Non sequitur. :)

Driver VNX2 in all specs. Please see: http://skylumen.com/pages/drivervn-drivervnx-programmable-circuits
Thank you for the programing information. It was very helpful. I received my light it is amazing. It is a x7vn. I do have a question about it though. Any mode that will let me go to 100% brightness after it reaches 100% it will not come back on. Or sometime it will just fash once when I double click for example mode 11. It will flash once and then be locked out. The only way that I can get it operational again is to remove the batteries. I am using thrunite 3600 mah batteries. Thank you for your help

Either they're protected or not high drains would be my first diagnostic here. Watch my video about using high drain cells in X7VN. It explains how to use them, how different cells will behave, and top recommendations. Also some driver VNx2 talk. Congrats on the light.

Perfect! I heard back from vihn. He echoed what you said about the unprotected high drain cells. I was reading the link to the ones he sent me and it said to be careful not to overcharge or over discharge the batteries. Over discharging should not be a problem because I charge on a regular basis however the over charging thing has me nervous. I have a battery charger with a voltage meter. Should I just watch them until they reach a certain voltage? Thank you in advance

over charging shouldn't be a problem with a reputable charger--several good ones out there XTAR OPUS ETC

I sounds to me like your batteries are not up to the task of supplying amps to Vinh's lights. Get some Samsung 30Q, or Sony VTC5 or Sony VTC6.

Think of it this way. you wouldn't put cheap gas into a Ferrari.
