I had been keeping eyes on this one for a while a decided to pick it up last week. The very first thing i was going to do was to bore it for 18650 but that idea has failed. I couldn't manage to unscrew the head from the body, the red locktite is tough as hell :banghead::banghead:

For who don't know, the 6PX has 2 version: tactical and pro. i'll only get single output with the tactical version the dual output (600 and 15 Lumens) with the Pro one.

Unlike the G2X which has the polymer body, the 6PX body is made of Aluminum. It's very compact and practical, great for almost everyday activities. The only downside is that they can only take either 16650 or 2 CR123A. I've seen some folks succeed boring its body for 18650, that would make a perfect light.

Specifications:
- Emitter: i believe it's Cree XP-L
- Maximum ouput: 600 Lumens (1.5 hours)
- Lower output: 15 Lumens (52 hours)
- Beam distance: 187 meters but the effective range is about 120 meters
- Battery: 2 x CR123A or 1 x 16650
- The lens is made of polycarbonate which is very tough
- Length: 132mm
- Head diameter: 31.75mm
- Weight (without batteries): 147g

Unboxing and detailed review:

There's nothing much to talk about the packing. It's simple!

You'll get: 1 x 6PX Pro, 2 x CR123A Battery, Sticker, Manual and a Catalog.

These 2 CR123As are great for backup

I don't got money to burn so 16650 seems to be the best choice i have. Actually i'm sick of this kind of battery. I've been trying to standardize the all my light to 18650 but this one is exceptional :(

The protected 16650 from Keeppower fits perfectly. i once had a G2X Pro and its body was so tight that it could only fit unprotected cell.

i love how clean and simple it look

Surefire_6px_Pro_11.jpg

the size is perfect for EDC

Surefire_6px_Pro_12.jpg

It weights about 152g with batteries, which is not bad

Surefire_6px_Pro_13.jpg

compare to other tactical lights i have, the 6PX is mid-size. From left to right: Elzetta Bones, Surefire 6PX Pro, Fenix TK15UE, Olight Warrior X, Armytek Predator Pro, Fitorch M30R.

the body has some nice finger grips

Surefire_6px_Pro_24.jpg

would be better with a lanyard

Surefire_6px_Pro_22.jpg

the light does not come with a pocket clip. i don't care much about that but in case you need one, Solarforce has a ton of them.

Surefire_6px_Pro_25.jpg

clicky tail cap switch. I'd say it's pretty comfortable when operating.

  • On/OFF: fully click the switch. Click once and the light will be on at 15 Lumens, half click twice before turning on for 600 Lumens
  • It has momentary on/off

That's such a simple UI and is the main reason why i love Surefire.

springs contact of the tail cap

that's thiccc

Surefire_6px_Pro_32.jpg

the board's contact's kind of disappointing

Surefire_6px_Pro_34.jpg

Triangle threat and no sign of anodizing

Surefire_6px_Pro_35.jpg

it's not a big deal anyway

Surefire_6px_Pro_36.jpg

the head is designed for anti-rolling

Surefire_6px_Pro_37.jpg

have no ideal why Surefire does not mention what kind of LED they use. Ridiculously, now Fenix is doing the same!

Anyone with experiences could tell it's XP-L with orange reflector.

the bezel is plastic and also glued

15 Lumens

600 Lumens

15 Lumens are enough for indoor uses

Surefire_6px_Pro_44.jpg

while 600 Lumens will definitely get you blind in the middle of the night

Surefire_6px_Pro_45.jpg

honestly, i found 15 Lumens is much more useful the the moonlight mode

The 6PX beam is the perfect combination of throw and spill. It gives you clear vision at at least 120 meters away, which is nice for urban environment.

Surefire-6px-runtime.png

look at this decent runtime. I only used 2500mAh 16650 for the test and it turned out quite impressive. You'll get nearly 100% of output for half and an hour before it starts descending and finally turns off at 70 minutes.

Conclusion:

This flashlight is all about balance: compact size, well built, powerful and has decent amount of runtime. I think i won't give up trying to get it bored for 18650 and will update the result in the future.

Nice review. I'm curious how the runtime would have turned out with 2xCR123's, given the claimed 600lmx1.5hr runtime.

Thanks for your impressions. Interesting that the instructions for converting the light to single mode are now printed on the board itself. I read a post in the 6PX/G2X thread that instructions were included with a new G2X LE; I assumed in the paperwork, not on the light itself.
The two mode operation is convenient in use. No turning parts or hitting side switches. Just tap the mode you want and click it on. In lights this size, two modes is perfect. I only wish these came with glass lenses. I'd pay extra for that.

You can get glass for extra money. Glass is in the P2X and P3X fury Tactical models.

Also I guess I will get a few 16650's for my P2X. I never thought of it before.

Yeah, I have some Fury's, but the slight decrease in head size of the 6PX and better regulation at a lower Max output (on my 320 lumen models) seems more useful still. If it had the lens of the Fury, it'd be perfect.

AWESOME review!! Question....which has the better runtime? 2 cr123a or the 16650 2500 mAh?

I'm 90% certain the 600 lumen 6px is running an XML sized led, an xml2 possibly.
If it has an xpl it would have a tighter beam and more throw.
I looked at the reflector pic you posted and it looks the same proportionately to how mine is.
I could be wrong but if you compare it to another XML in your collection, you'll know for certain.
If they ever switch to xpl, xpp or Osram I'd buy another one ;)
