The problem with the Executive is quite simple... not enough of them get sold for HDS to really put much more into them...
Let me explain.
Rotary style lights outsell Executive style lights by about 10 to 1. So for every time we get battery compartments made, it is 10 times more often to get Rotary parts done, as there is still stock of Executive battery tubes. If we have tubes made twice a year for the Rotary, it means Executive tubes get made once every 5 years. It doesn't make a lot of sense to throw out a bunch of stock that is perfectly good for a product line that is moving much slower than the flagship (Rotary).
The Executive won't die... but it could fade away. Its very existence has been a topic with Henry and myself on numerous occasions and when, finally, a new light comes out... what is the fate of the executive with such a small market for it? You guys know I like options... but we will see.

But regarding your red option, the used LED has a better red (deeper red) than the Surefire Kroma MILSPEC, Surefire Aviator or the Surefire Red filters.

I am happy I have a HDS with a red LED. It is the best light keeping the night viewing capabilities of the human eye IMO.

But I understand that is does not make sense investing into LEDs for a slow selling option.

Yes, it is a darker red. After the Hyper Red runs, Henry later moved to the deeper red emitter which is far superior to some of the other "orangey" options out there.

The Red option supplied by Surefire is really good. The 3 mentioned lights, and also the Surefire Red Filters are making a really good red that preserves night visibility.

But the Red LED option @HDS shows that it is possible to make that even better!:bow::bow:

After reading a lot of this and other HDS threads I've decided to see what all the hoopla is about. The hard part now is deciding what model to buy...
The only thing to decide is whether you like warmer or cooler tints, which you probably already know, then go for your preferred emitter in a
Rotary.

Recommend considering the following if you want to buy an HDS:
(a) special metal or regular aluminum?
(b) rotary?
(c) which emitter?

Assuming you're good with black aluminum and rotary, the real debate is the emitter. There are many, many options if you consider the secondary market. Less options avail as new stock from HDS, but this changes regularly. My personal recommendations are Nichia 219b or 219c flavors at 4000 to 5000k, but you'll have to keep an eye out for a used one.

Battery tube is another choice, but this is easily changed afterwards.

What's the HDS position on switch reliability against impacts? Is the e-switch comparable to Mcclicky in surviving drops? Or maybe not as resistant, but necessary for adv configurability, so a good tradeoff?

Anecdotally, I don't recall ever reading of an HDS switch failure due to impact but it happens sometimes with mcclickies. Pending more evidence I'd say I have more confidence in the e switch than a mcclickie.

I lost my rotary 250 back in October. I'd had it since 2014.

I told myself if it didn't turn up in 6 months, I'd replace it.

I finally clicked "buy" today. It was a tough call. But in these uncertain times, the worst case scenario is I have 2 rotaries, and that feels pretty good to me.

e switches are more reliable and have a much longer life (depending on the switch... our current one is rated to 1 million clicks) which is 27 clicks a day for 100 years. We have switched switches over the years. In fact, we changed not long ago after reviewing and dissecting about 20 different ones.

To me that sounds like the best case scenario!
With the worst case scenario being that you only have 1

Sorry to here about losing your last one. Hopefully purchasing the new one causes the old to reappear giving you a back-up.

Dan, will the new lights in development work with the current battery tubes? More specifically clicky tubes.

There is a 99.999999999999999999999% chance that they will not. Don't panic though. I'm hoping the new light comes out before I die... much more than that... I mean, I wanted it out already. Like last year. Looking more like 2022. Ugh. Must... live.... 2... more... years....

Remind me on Monday. I'm old. I forget stuff.

Why did I walk into this room?

Isn't that how it usually happens? It is like when you have been saving something for years and finally throw it away, then a week later... BAM! There is something you need it for.

I am relatively new to HDS lights and only have Executives so far, but am very happy with that model. I have played around with the customization options. I used the Advanced User's Guide on the site. I was under the impression that only the LE model had Pseudo Momentary, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that the Executive has that as well. The optional features section says Burst for the Executive and Bicycle, but Burst and Pseudo Momentary for the LE. Is there a different type of Pseudo Momentary on the LE version? I accessed mine through the options menu on the Executive and I press, hold, and release. Then it turns off.
