Bread? Have you guys priced allergy medicine lately? Holy mackeral!!
Which one? I buy generic Benadryl to use as sleeping pills, but don't really pay attention to the price, just try to buy them as cheap as possible. I imagine the latest and greatest name brand stuff is really high without a coupon.

First keep your politics to yourselves.

Second, we are producing more oil in this country now than ever before

Third, oil prices are not determined domestically, but globally. Whoever is in office has virtually nothing to do with it.

Tariffs on foreign goods can certainly make our prices go up though…

Said the globalist.

Yes, everyone noticed that Biden backed down on his oil hate in order to get the price of gas down...notice we are in an election year, anyone?

The USA was an oil exporter when Trump was in office, Biden shut it down and went hat in hand to OPEC begging for more oil production. Oh, BTW, Saudi Arabia just joined BRICS.

Oh, and last of all, these aren't "my politics", these are Joe Biden's politics.

I'm talking about non drowsey anti-histamines like Alegra, Claritan and Zyrtec, store brand versions. They have more than doubled since summer. What I was getting for $14+/- is now nearly $37!!!

We're basically never not in an election year.
Supply and demand and opec are what brought prices down.
You're still saying it's up to the current administration.
Simply wrong. BP doesn't care who is in office.

The US had been been an oil exporter before Trump.
Due to the pandemic, the demand for oil dropped globally, and the prices plummeted. There was a oil glut. The Saudis, and Russia couldn't cut production fast enough, and Trump imported a lot of it and refilled our strategic oil reserves, at discount prices. I applauded him for that. We continued to export refined oil, but we were a NET IMPORTER.

Regarding the Pipeline from Canada, (I'm only going from memory) but as I recall, when the construction of the pipeline was halted, only a small percentage of it was completed, maybe 20-30%? The existing pipeline was not carrying its full capacity. So halting the construction job that would increase excess capacity, did not affect the amount of crude oil imported from Canada. Even today we import more crude oil from Canada than from anywhere else.

A few weeks ago i did a quick google search "When did the US export more oil than it imported"
The answer was: 2020 was the first time that happened and it continued each year thereafter including 2023.
We import more oil from Canada than anywhere else and we refine it and sell it back or on the global market,

Most of our oil production comes from the gulf coast and we make more money refining it and selling it to Mexico than it would be to ship it to the East coast. The East Coast gets its refined gasoline cheaper from Europe. We do have pipelines that carry fuel to New Jersey, but oil tankers come into the Port of Newark from overseas too.

It's a complex situation regarding, importing, refining, exporting, and global market stabilization that will take some time to digest, if one cares to discuss the topic intelligently.

The raos wasn't that great for 7 bucks a jar it should have been better but I do admit I had no idea which one to buy lol . They use odd terms. I like when it just says sausage spaghetti sauce . Instead of what I assume to be Italian terms . I'll stick with Mids or Walmart stuff btw I think it was last year the Walmart stuff was like 90 cents per jar lol now it's like 190 lol
Had some of aldi's Priano tomato basil sauce - real good and I think it was only 1.79. It comes in a glass mason style jar like classico uses.

Recently Shop Rite had on the bone Prime Rib Roast for $4.59 a pound!

I don't know if it was a loss leader, or not. This country suffered a nation wide drought that caused cattle farmers to cull their herds because there wasn't the ability to grow enough hay.

A few months ago, the newscasters mentioned that (perhaps due to inflation) people have cut back on purchasing more expensive cuts of meat. This caused a supply and demand issue where they needed to reduce the cost of more expensive cuts of meat in order to be able to sell it/them.

There was a chicken scare fairly recently, but somehow they overcame it. Boneless skinless chicken breasts and thighs can be had at $1.99 a pound.

I think that eggs are still high.

There's that, and also eating red meat is becoming the new smoking, at least among those under about 30. Same with processed meats like bacon and cold cuts.

We never ate much meat in our family (traditional Mediterranean diet like many Italian families), so high meat prices have a much smaller effect on us. I think "meat-lite" is the best way to go. I heard cutting it out completely can result in deficiencies of certain vitamins and minerals. The idea is get enough to satisfy those requirements, but no more. If most people did that, prices would drop solely due to lesser demand.

I'll be happy to explain.

When Biden took office, he immediately declared war on petroleum, natural gas and coal, the things that run our nation (ENERGY). He began by halting a pipeline, a pipeline that would have efficiently and with less pollution than current trucking and rail transportation, move oil to refineries. Biden then let it be known to the oil, coal and gas companies that they were endangered industries, and he was going to do everything he could to shut them down. This caused those industries to cut investments. The market answered by the price of oil going up. Since everything runs on, or is dependent on the price of energy, all prices of everything increased. Diesel to farmers increased, diesel to truckers increased, and fertilizer prices for farmers skyrocketed. Higher costs of production and transportation caused increased prices to the supermarket. This was the increase on the supply side.

Now on the demand side. Biden threw the border open to the world. He stopped the building of the Southern Border Wall, and called for The World, to rush the border. Beginning then (Trump had the border nearly under control) we have seen a massive invasion of people from all over the world, enter our nation. They did not bring their food with them. Where will they get their food? The same place that you and I get our food. Millions of new "eaters" have invaded our nation, at the expense of our tax dollars, and are competing with the citizens for resources. This is the increase on the demand side.

Farmers did not anticipate this increased demand for food, and did not take the increased demand into account in their planting/ranching operation planning. How many extra Acres of crops should they plant for this demand? How many more head of livestock should they buy to graze? How are they going to afford the extra fertilizer/diesel/pesticides/herbicides/machinery/labor/seed/livestock/feed etc, to meet the need? Farmers and stockmen will do all that they can to meet the need, but with greater demand for housing, and cities expanding into farmland, there is less and less farmland available, and what is left becomes more and more expensive to buy, as demand goes up and supply goes down. On top of all the other problems, the farmers and ranchers have the red tape of bureaucracy to fight. Right now, here in Kansas, the Greenies in government are trying to get a prairie chicken declared endangered which will take a lot of land out of farm production. There are many Kansans fighting the Biden administration on this, but it is a tough battle. This is just one of many battles that farmers and ranchers have with the federal government agencies.

I could go on and on about how politics affect the price of food, but that is not my area of expertise, I'm just a lay person. I haven't even mentioned the flood of tax money that was sent out to consumers during the Pandemic, and the shut down of industries and retailers. Hopefully by now, you get the idea that politics has everything to do with the price of a loaf of bread.
The truth hurts hence the heads buried in the sand.
Wife had some old guy tell her we need to help all these people that are pouring across our border?
So we should just let everyone who wants a better life just come right in? I think over half the world wants to live here for that better life who would blame them? So our population goes from 330million to 3.5 billion surely we can cope with that??? 😂
Oh did i forget to mention my wife got her U.S. citizenship in 2023. After coming here legally under a green card it only took 38 years to finally pony up the money and the many months of reasonable red tape but she raised her hand and swore allegiance to the America. I'm so proud of her. 🇺🇸

The thing that stopped my allergies… all of them… was diet… any processed grains - and unfermented grains and it takes two days to become a veritable nasal discharge…

We changed our diet to avoid all processed foods and that changed our world… it is not that you are allergic to the grain necessarily, but what they do to the grains these days
