Your favourite and worse LED torches

Favorite: Jetbeam TCR1 Infinitely variable from 0 to 500 lumen with 18650 battery (large capacity). Great smooth beam profile. Durable titanium body. Can't ask for much more really. Worse: Maglite with LED (rebel I think) The led just stopped working after a few years, and I barely even turn it...

*New* JetBeam TCR20 - Oblique or Straight

Hi Albert56, You've been a long time member of CPF, should you not already understand the pros and cons of titanium lights, below are some links (they're just the tip of the iceberg) which can give you a pretty good insight into the topic...

    Jetbeam parts/service?

As with the copying thing, that's just business. Samsung copied Apple stuff as did Apple copied from Google. As Steve Jobs once said, "Good artists copy; great artists steal", and we're talking about a medium sized company in CHINA. Live with it.

    Jetbeam parts/service?

I'm sure there are examples of poor JB samples around as would any other mass produced products. But as a general statement, I cannot agree JB makes poor quality lights. What I can definitely agree however is that I think I am certainly catching onto the P60 style host & drop in pill game as...

    Jetbeam parts/service?

I did take some of the SF and JB lights apart. Say the C2 and the Jet iii m, their built quality imho are both very difficult to fault and fair to say they're roughly in 'same grade'. As a consumer, I care about the product and support that comes along with it. For SF, I think you're largely...

    Jetbeam parts/service?

Either go with a reputable local dealer or forget about it. CS from Jetbeam direct is really 'not great'. You are after all getting a SF grade product at a Maglite grade price, something has to suffer, you don't get something for nothing.

    Recently Purchased JetBeam BC25-SE

Does the 10 bucks cheap light have a big reflector compared to the Jetbeam? A lights throw is dependent on many factors, pricing is only very weakly correlated

Can you really buy 7000 lumen for £30? B$?

The lumen is most likely the aggregate (if multi led) of the LED's maximum capable output as advertised by the led manufacturer. What is not taken into account would be how hard the light is driven, the transparency of the lens, loss in efficiency due to poor reflector quality etc. The premium...

Why do LEDs seem brighter than the same size incandescent?

The "60 watt equivalent" led is only an approximate, probably an underestimation as they're more likely to be sued by consumer watch dogs if the led bulbs they advertise had a higher output than if it was actually lower.
