Nope, I've been on a Flashaholic hike with people from this board circa 2009 in the Santa Cruz mountains, but I've never been to a star party. I do know well enough to not make such a newbie mistake though when I do eventually go to a star party. We had like 15 people with SERIOUS...
Yeah, I'll probably switch to something else. As said it's ridiculous for this device to even have an 18650 in the first place - I think they were going for "tacticool' in terms of that and host size. For ten bucks I didn't bother researching much. Awesome laser, I'll say that much, but...
What do you all think of these batteries (as in the brand itself) for really low discharge applications? I just bought a laser in the 80 milliwatt range that came with an Ultrafire 18650 and charger.
So, around 20ma current, kind of stupid battery choice as far as I'm aware (excessive runtimes...
I posted this somewhere else but figured some here might find it useful as well. I use some terms and explanations for non-flashaholics in the original post elsewhere...
I bought a headlamp (link at the end) with a main beam and two red LED's on either side of it.
The red LED's are intended...
This is a headlamp, but I'm posting here because this is about an LED lighting solution for the application and this is where it'll get more views (but I also posted this in the headlamp forum). I am in no way affiliated with the manufacturer - this is just a "heads up" (pun not intended lol)...
My only rechargeables are Eneloop AA's and AAA's.
I ran them all in both high and low discharge applications (in rotation) from full charge to "full" discharge (as in whenever they stopped working for the application) for nearly ten years. They still work, but lately I was noticing them...
In the event I don't have my EDC flashlight my tool is a Bic lighter. Instant light. More instant than any smartphone app. I've tried. That said I DO have smartphone flashlight apps. But I can't imagine reaching for them sooner than the Bic in a real world need for light. The Bic is just...
I'd say discussion of batteries IN A SUREFIRE LIGHT isn't all that off topic though - might be "been there done that" and boring to you Donn, but not all of us (myself included) have gone down all the roads you have there...
I'll second that. A 1000 lumen Surefire that fits in your hand for "only" $250, or maybe less? They might just be getting their second purchase from me. Bought one years ago, then "saw the light" and went with other brands, but there's still something about a Surefire...
On the topic of defense against animals on the trail - an option I've used (but never actually USED) is a road flare. Instantly ignitable, noisy, hard to put out even if you shove them in the dirt (or an animal), and the smoke is incredibly noxious if it gets in your nose - I can only imagine...
Is there any CPF consensus on this? I'm talking about "power packs" that you charge at home, not car chargers.
Could be something with it's own battery pack, or something that uses AA's, or whatever...
I've seen a ton of brands, most of which I don't recognize, and there's a temptation to...
Re: What's your absolute "must have" criteria for buying another flashlight?
It must blow anything in my current lineup away for the same price as what I paid a few years ago for my current equipment. I don't endlessly pay for tiny incremental upgrades on anything. I buy good stuff with the...
Been EDC with a Quark Mini AA with Eneloops for about that long now. Quark Mini 123 as backup (and "one spare battery") on top of a second spare 123 for battery backup for my 6P/M60 if needed.
I do a lot of things in the dark, and there's simply been no need to have more than this lineup...
