    H6W Bulbs, GX brand?

Thanks Guys for your replies. Ok, found an additional H6W holder, so.... all 3 @13v (Polti w5w, GE H6w, "GX" H6w) Difference is more noticeable in-person, but at least the above is "apples/apples";) Just wondered if all halogen h6w bulbs should take on a blue-white envelope colour.

    H6W Bulbs, GX brand?

Is anyone familiar with "GX" branded bulbs? I have a failed 6W H6W sidelight which used such bulbs. Got some vanilla GeneralElectric replacements but they don't seem as bright or "white" in colour. The glass(quartz?) of my remaining "GX" bulb is clear/transparent when not lit and takes on a...

    Non Philips/Osram/GE XENON/HID burners.

Ok "claims" sounds right! At the end of the day, you get what you pay for. With such a low price point we're not even comparing cheese with cheese here, more like cheese with a cheese lookylike. "Evil" Jared HID kits, wait, I bet that packaging option is available... I don't have...

Yet Another Reason Not to Use Cheap HID Lighting Components

Aren't those pressure monitoring sensors using RF?:caution: Maybe on a classic car with a proper throttle cable (ie not DBW), carbs+points and no electronic control systems the kit would be 'OK'. Even then would probably still screw up your radio reception. On a modern car installing a cheap HID...

Random major color shift in HID bulb?

I retro-fitted complete OEM Bi-xenon units and only just managed to keep under 4 figures in terms of USD.:eek: Thought could save a bit on burners, no such scenario! It is scary that these kits are cropping up in cars everywhere, that LEXUS o/c vid with the mad electric power steering...

Need Some Advice on Using Relays (Preventing Counter-EMFs)

Those cheap pre-made modules/arrays of LEDs designed to fit the form-factor of a filament bulb are generally unsuitable for external automotive applications for the reasons already highlighted. I mean "at a push" using them for automotive interior use as the modules will often have very...

Need Some Advice on Using Relays (Preventing Counter-EMFs)

Totally agree. The "efficiency" is so great they'll flash at double-speed but in daylight nobody will see them anyway. LED bulbs only really "OK" for interior use at a push.

Random major color shift in HID bulb?

Thanks, yes I'd forgotten about Mercury!:o Not much else in those chinese capsules, only about a third of the salts as visible in some Philips/Osram ones, they were equiv of under 30USD/pair so can't expect a lot for that.

Random major color shift in HID bulb?

That explanation sounds reasonable to me, I have seen the earlier 350z HIDs and they looked to emit from the side with refector too which would explain the odd shaped projector with cut-outs. What have you done with the extra holes in the projector? Seems they were designed to use the...

Random major color shift in HID bulb?

Just wondering why you have D2R not D2S burners? The pic of your Jeep looks like they have projector units, so would expect D2S burners?? Here's a close-up pic of some chinese burners I had, maybe normal but can see the electrodes look to be pitted after only a few start-up cycles. Perhaps...

New manufacture at CPFMP has an Slim HID kit: is it any good?

There are some pdfs at this thread, shows the 'spikes' in output spectrum for a standard philips d2s burner. Oh, this is the new big thing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q-NANHTafxU The audio made me chuckle anyways.:sigh:

    Vintage Motorcycle Lighting

Sorry to say but your best bet really is to abandon the DIY LED headlight route and try and find an updated headlamp from a newer model motorcycle and try to fit that. The task of creating your own headlight from leds which is compliant to regs/MOT is almost completely impossible...

    PWM'd voltages for Automotive lighting.

Is the duty cycle really as low as that? ≈4volts average? I did read that word doc file from the socale90 link that said the rings have two intensity settings so maybe that's it? Yes, that's certainly another avenue to go exploring down. Just a though here, I'm now certain lighting...

    PWM'd voltages for Automotive lighting.

Been thinking a bit more about this part above. Would you say the graph below sums up the stock situation? You have said that only a dummy load similar to that of the 35w halogen was sufficient to not give errors, ie around 4.5 Ohms. From what I saw in my searchings through the datasheets for...

    PWM'd voltages for Automotive lighting.

Had a good look at navcoder, sadly it seems that it does not support the newer E90 and E92 models. It looks as though the light control module from earlier e46/e85 is now the footwell module and all light (and doubtless other functions) are performed by it. Unfortunately, at present navcoder has...
