I tried a couple of 3.6v rechargeables in my X5 and it didn't like them at all. One of the LED's did not light. I thought I had fried it. It was only on a couple of seconds. When I put the 3.0 volt primaries back in it seems to work fine. I would not recommend 3.6v batts. They are also a bit to...
Interesting that people seem to be pretty evenly split so far between want more light and wanting a better color - whatever that color may be.
Has anyone done any tests for adding a red LED to cool white? I wonder just how much red you need. My off the cuff guess would be 1 red for 3 white...
One catch to looking at efficacy numbers is that they always quote the 350 mA values, while 700-1000 is a more typical in use.
I agree we need a standard base for LED lighting, something that would position a small light source precisely in an optic.
Be careful using sunlight as a foolproof reference. ~5500K sunlight is only at noon on a clear day. Anyone who has used a camera's manual color balance on a cloudy day can tell you the color balance is constantly changing. Daylight color near sunset is very different from the color midday. And I...
evan9162: Thanks a lot for all the info! WOW!
It is very interesting to see that the lumen/watt for different drive levels is similar to current LED's. Really amazing you did all this in one day.
Did you get these from Future? I have 10 of them but can't find any info on what bin they are. I...
There are LOTS of different inductors. Finding a replacement would be a challenge. Was it the lead wire that broke? You might just try unwinding one turn to replace the lost wire. This should work of there are lots of turns. If there are only a few, it may change the value to much.
Is it just me? I have never had much luck with super glue (CA). I have tried it on plastic many times and it never holds. I guess I just never got good surface contact. I think epoxy is great because you can 'build up' the joint with it to make it stronger than the flawed original part. It is a...
http://www.surplusshed.com/ has several aspheres. Very reasonable prices.
As for focal length, a lower F ratio (focal length/lens diameter) will capture more light from the emitter. A longer focal length will make a smaller spot. I have some of these to play with but haven't experimented much...
I received an aluminum sampler pack today with .025, .032, .04, .05, .0625, .08
I would say the biggest jump in rigidity is between .04 and .05
.05 seems a good thickness for rigid but still easily workable parts. I was surprised that there does not seem to be much difference between 6061...
I have the Kaito (Tekpower) HY3005D and it works well. It is a linear supply which is generally cleaner output than a switch, but a bit larger and more expensive. Build quality is not great - it came with a bad volt meter. They sent a replacement meter.
Finding one that is not made in China...
