    Cheap Multimeter

Harbor Freight sells a cheap but decent DMM for $9.99, and often has sale coupons for $1.99 or $2.49 for this same meter. I have one just for testing battery voltages and another in the car just in case.

Best way to photograph both COOL and WARM white LED tints?

My suggestion is to include a small white sheet in the photo, perhaps a 1 x 1 inch square of paper. Take your photo using the white balance you feel is closest to what you see - such as the sunlight ~5200K or fluorescent ~4000K white balance you mentioned. Take a series of photos, starting...

    Best 18650 budget of $250 or ^

I'm surprised no one had mentioned the Elektro Lumens DeCree-XPG, 300 lumens OTF with a 5.5 degree optic.

ITP A3 EOS 3 stage model got washed and dryed by mother

Try drying it out for a few days. Open it up, remove the battery and set it in a sunny window for a few days. That should drive out any mosture unless cold air coming off the window prevents the light from getting warm from the sun. Another approach is to set the oven between 150F to 180F and...

Where did all the oldtimers go.

I guess I qualify as an "old timer" having joined up in 2002. I still have (and use) my LGI and my 2AA Energizer flashlights with the SMJLED PR2 modules! :D I just recently modded my old MadMax pill to a Seoul P4 and am amazed at how much light it puts out. Now I'm wondering if an...

Just picked up a River Rock 3AA Lantern from Target

The front packaging on mine states "136 Lumens Bright" instead of Luxeon K2 Led, and "CREE LED Light" at the bottom right in blue letters in a white rectangle.

    Windows 7 are you moving?

Windows 7 has a 30 second delay on boot to allow for multiple OS to be used. I set the delay to 3 seconds to speed up the boot. I don't know if it helps, but I also set the number of processors to 2 (I have a dual core system) as well: Start -> msconfig -> boot tab Timeout: 3 seconds (30...

    Maglite Solitaire upgrade?

The only one I know of is the Tektite LT-3 at LED-Replacement.com The Sandwich Shoppe used to carry a SMJ LED sandwich for the Solitaire, but I don't see it available now.

    MG L-Mini II review

I did some testing with some 2 year old unprotected 2400mAH cells. When my L-Mini II 5C-Q3 switches to low from high, the battery measured 3.4V with no load. When the light shuts off on low, the battery measured 3.15V with no load. Run times starting with the battery charged to 4.15V were 2...

    Cree Q3 5A or Q4 5B

I would love to see a beam shot comparison of 5A, 5B and 5C. I just bought a L-Mini II with a Q3-5C and really like the tint and how it looks inside and outside.

    MG L-Mini II review

My 18650 cells measure 165mm exactly. I found the tailcap worked fine, but had to work at getting the threads started when changing the battery. I cut off about 5mm of the tailcap spring (a bit over 1/8 inch) and find it much easier to replace the tailcap. The tailcap pushes on and rests...

    MG L-Mini II review

It gets hot after about 5 minutes on high. However, I can hand hold it on high as long as I need to. If you set it down for 10 minutes on high, it is too hot to hold comfortably. It barely gets luke warm on medium, even after sitting on a table for over an hour.

    MG L-Mini II review

Resistance is futile... this thread convinced me to pull the trigger on a Q3-5C. A shiney new MG L-Mini II showed up surprisingly fast from ShiningBeam :naughty: I love the tint and color rendition of the Q3-5C Cree. Only if I shine a WD tint on the wall next to it does the beam appear to...

    Fenix EO CE?

Why not get the LOD-CE? On medium (~ 20 lumens) the LOD runs about 3 hours - the same as the E1, but almost twice as bright. If you want/need longer runtimes, drop the LOD to low and get over 6 hours.

Whats the best thrower under $50?

Harborfreight sells a 3D and a 3C LED flashlight that throws very well. It is direct drive and uses a Luxeon star that is easily replaced with a Cree for over twice the brightness. A prior thread about these lights is here. I've moded the 3C version with the Cree XR-E Q2 star and am amazed at...
