    Maglite 5D rubber button?

If you search the internet for "maglite switch seal" or "maglite switch cover" you'll find plenty for sale.

How hot are your LED bulbs running

I measured an older (2012) home depot ecosmart 60w equivalent bulb at 198f on the heatsink surface. That bulb had a noticable 60/120 hz flicker so I replaced it with a cree a year or two later. I haven't measured to see how the newer bulbs do but their heatsinks are getting smaller and...

Philips 1156 LED ok for Stop or Turn signals in 2000 VW Golf?

I can't see the HID planet link, but at walmart today I spotted some red 1156 and 1157 zevo/osram bulbs. One red SMD led mounted on each side of a robust looking metal three pronged heatsink. Are these the good ones? I was considering trying a pair to try out given their liberal return...

minor rant: why don't people use their lights in the fog??

I'd say half the reason is everyone relies on the automatic headlight feature nowdays. It's bright enough during foggy conditions many times to not turn them on, and no one thinks about it because they've gotten used to the sensor doing it for them. To make matters worse figuring out the...

Cree's Gen-2 facts - More efficient but shorter life

It's been a while since I looked that stuff up, but didn't Cree change their testing to use higher current/temperatures a few years ago to represent more real world conditions?

    Polish for *non* headlight lenses?

Plastx is a good polish, but for really bad hazing it's best to break out the sandpaper, 800-5000 grit then buff with plastx (start at the highest grit that seems to make some difference), or just get a headlight restoration kit that includes the sandpaper and polish.

    New LED headlamps

I haven't really done a direct comparison since the firebird had one burned out headlight when I got it and the Petersons went on before I started driving it at night, so the only thing I have to compare the LEDs to are old hazy lamps on our newer vehicles *Petersons are better, all the time...

    New LED headlamps

I have a set of peterson LED 7 inch rounds on my 74 firebird. The car is driven in all conditions in florida, no ice but we did get a hint of frost a couple days this winter. There's not enough heat from the LEDs being emitted to take care of any kind of frost on the lens, another issue is...

    Best flashlight O-ring material..and more.

Anything petroleum based will eat EPDM quickly( most "synthetic oils" are still petroleum based as far as EPDM is concerned). On the upside not much is as weather or solvent resistant (acetone/MEK) as EPDM. Silicone and krytox work best for EPDM as lubricants. I'm not sure about how EPDM...

    UV Coating Removal

The tape is purely a physical process. Due to age/chemical exposure the hardcoating will start to look like it has bubbles forming and may start flaking off in places. When it gets to that point, the adhesion of the tape is enough to break whatever is left of the bond between the coating and...

    UV Coating Removal

It'll depend on the hardcoat and how bad it's failing. Some hardcoats after 5-10 years will be so bad that sticking a strong tape like duct tape or even some masking tapes will peel it cleanly and easily off the plastic lens. Just keep using fresh tape and you'll eventually get it all off...

Does anyone make a decent LED festoon?

I just went ahead and ordered that 15w equivalent festoon from the UK in warm white. Pretty sure it'll fit the dome light in my car, I'll update when it gets here.

Old Surefire 6p now unreliable- need recommendations.

When I had this problem it was due to a solid body drop-in not making full contact in a C2 because the bezel had come unscrewed ever so slightly (like 1/16 of a turn) Fix was a bit of aluminum foil between the body and the drop-in, this improved heatsinking and made the light 100% reliable. It...

    Led/halogen equivalent

I'd say wattage wise minimum 10-15 watts of LED to be safe. Aircraft spruce has LED landing lights which I'm (perhaps wrongly)assuming are legally approved for this application. I know aircraft like yours have some relaxed restrictions compared to larger planes but I'm not sure how much...

    Older Eneloops maintenance with C9000

Around once a year on my older ones I'll do a discharge cycle, then do the break-in charge. Mine all still measure around 1800-1900 capacity (2006 vintage)
