Final thoughts on the TN42vn 90
Definitely an impressive light. HUGE hot spot, plenty of throw, nice neutral tint and plenty of spill/flood amounting in more than sufficient peripheral light.
The weather has been cold[except for Friday when it was 62F!]. Being that the run times are short, Heat is not an issue. My guess is that in the summer time you could run it for about 5 minutes on MAX. This prototype is single mode, activate/de-activate by tightening and loosening body.
Disregarding the price. The ONLY down side is the run time. This is to be expected with the amount of power and the lower capacity of VTC5A.
Solution: Have at least Two[2] sets of VTC5A and change them in 15 minutes if you like MAX OUTPUT like me! Same concept as my Modded single cell throwers.
I always do a run time test when I get a new light[even if it is not mine for keeps!]
Batteries- VTC5A
Test: MAX run time/tail stand/no fan/Incremental 5 min. ON, 5 min. OFF.
Starting Voltage-4.21V
Loft Temp- 63F/17C
5 MIN=3.96V
10 MIN=3.80V
15 MIN=3.67V
20 MIN=3.57V
The first 5 minutes is awesome, next 5 is still good. after 10 minutes or so the decrease is noticeable. After 15 minutes[3.67V] it is really noticeable.
Wild guess,,,after 20 minutes the output is probably ~ 60/65% of turn on output. It is still bright enough to use and enjoy.
Thanks again V54 and my friend, cameraman Bob.
Enjoy it LLS ON COWLES MT.!
