Best infinitely variable magenetic ring light brands and models?

Not without some kind of spacer so they can make contact for me.

I don't consider any light I need to mod to make light to be reliable really.

Don't they work after removing the QTC pill too? That'd be a first for me, since I've never had a non-QTC Peak malfunction.

The Nitecore might be to your taste. Push and hold the top button and it comes on high. Push the lower button and it comes on at whatever step you had it on when shut off. Not a ring light. The SRT series is the ring light series. FWIW, my fav is the SRT7.

I thought Nitecore stopped making Smart PD lights a few years back.

"best" depends on individual preferences
for me, the best has no tailswitch, is modded to N219, and the pocket clip is short enough not to interfere with the dial:
