Are the 10280 Li-ion batteries used by the draco protected? Is there anything one should keep in mind when charging/discharging them? Thanks for any info, and sorry is this was addressed elsewhere but I missed it...

Dave

Edit: I'm going to post a question about this in the batteries section.

Jonathan,

I got my draco today. All I can say is wow. Incredible amount of lighty from such a little thing. Congrats on an amazing accomplishment. Thanks for all your work on this.

btw..is there something that we can use to stop the battery rattle? No big deal but I was wondering is someone came up with some foam or oring or something that has worked.

I asked Jonathan what the turnaround time is for a Drake and he mentioned that he just got a batch of Cree XR-E R2 WC bins, so I guess that's what he's using.

lostinwv: The cells used in the Draco/Drake are not protected. During the early development days, I've tested several of these cells by directly shorting the cell. There is simply not enough capacity in the cell to cause the notorious lithium fire. These fires normally comes from much larger cells (eg18650, 26670, or even D size), which I have experience first hand. Safety is of great concern, that's why the Colossus (4x18650) was never release until the safer LiMn / LiPO4 was available. The Draco light should be very safe to use.

One thing that I would like to improve is the charger. Unfortunately there is no more Nano charger available. The company went belly up. So the next best thing is the Ultrafire. Another great option is the coin cell charger, unfotunately these are not as easy to use for most users.

JohnTz: Small foam washer can be use to minimize the rattle. I never pursue such route because of the battery tolerance issue.

niner: Current LED for the Draco and Draco standard head is Cree XR-E R2 WC You can specify other bin/tint but from my experience with LED source it take over a month from order to delivery.

BTW: I highly recommend AGAINST ordering an extra saphire lens. I have yet to hear of a scratch or damage in any of the ones in the field. Save that money for another toy.

Thanks Jonathan for the reply. Cree XR-E R2 WC is fine. At this moment, what's the turnaround time?

Solved the rattle issue with some scotch tape around the battery..just enough to hold it still but still easy to shake it out of the tube. This is really the most useful light I own. So easy to EDC. Thanks again Jonathan.

If someone wants to sell one of these I would like to buy one. I prefer any finish that is silver/grey/black colored, dont really care for the gold colored lights.Let me know!
Thanks

Work have been really busy so I can only assemble and package during the weekend these days. If I see your order by Sat then there is a good chance it'll head out on Monday.

+1

I've been wearing a watch with a domed sapphire crystal that gets bashed against all kinds of stuff for 8 years now. The worst I've ever had happen to it is some metal staining, which eventually wears off and looks new again!

Jonathan,

Can you point us to exact type of ball bearing swivels you attach to your lights?
#3 Sampo are similar, but they are thicker and do not look as nice as yours.

Thanks,
Andrey
