So Cal
My V10 retaining ring has the notches opposite side of yours.

Holes would be ideal for removal.
Maybe just two. Like Ku E switches.

Did a quick mock-up in Inventor. I'm going off a CAD drawing of the McClicky but I don't have any calipers at the moment so all the other measurements were taken with a drafting rule. I can email the model as a .DWG .STP or whatever you need Nick.

This is awesome! Thank you Isaac! I think the way talks have progressed is that maybe 2 holes would be ideal. Large enough to get some pliers in. I'm just not sure there is enough clearance. I was thinking split ring pliers would be ideal. I'm trying to avoid having a special tool made.

This is an awesome start!

Not mine...Steve Ku V10R e-switch with two holes. I can put any number of holes in the ring, all I have to do is change the n value in the circular pattern tool.

I see now. Its a raised ring it looks like. Like a bunt cake mold (don't ask why I know that!) Does anyone know what tool he uses to insert them?

What looks like a bunt mold ;) is actually the housing for the entire e-switch. This is a better shot (also not mine...it shows the switch outside the body.

I would like to address the concerns about compatability...The McGizmo clicky switch is a standardized part with 11/16"-20 UNS threads...same goes for the boot (minus the threads). The retention ring will fit any McClicky tail setup that's threaded 11/16"-20 like the Tri-EDC and XML-EDC are.

HF has cheep snap ring pliers with assortment of tips
Also a simple spanner wrench can be made with some bar stock a drill press and a couple broken drill bits for the pins

FWIW, I just use a bent plastic coated paper clip :D

I made the holes 1.25mm in diameter (in that picture they are 1.00mm). They could (emphasis on 'could') be widened more if need be...but too much more and they will weaken the ring or blow out some of the threads...LOL

Edit: I am 100% in agreement with CMAG. For my 'other' project, I have to design a custom spanner for the tail assembly. Something similar could be made for these, although cost might be prohibitive....

I'm debating weather or not to have a tool made for this application. My thought process is if you loose the tool, a readily available alternative should be available or easily made.

So this design that Isaac so kindly put together seems to fit the bill. I'll let this thread run for a few more days, but it seems like this design is the winner.

Will this thread become the sale thread?

I don't think so. It's already the pretty busy. I would first contact those who had interest based on comments in this thread, and then post a separate for sale thread.
