The mechanism by which lithium ions are stored in battery materials was believed uniform for each active particle previously. However, the Cambridge research team discovered that lithium storage is not uniform over the charge-discharge cycle. And they thought the performance and capacity of next-generation battery materials may be hampered by the irregular movement of lithium ions.

With this study, they are seeking new approaches to increase the practical energy density and lifetime of some promising battery materials. And it looks beneficial to electrical vehicles' batteries improvement. Do you think it's promising?
