I tries google searching for "SST20 vs XML2" but found nothing.

My old convoy S2+ died and I'm looking to replace it. Now they have the following options:

  • luminus SST20
  • Cree XML2
  • nichia 219C
  • XPL HI led

How do I compare? I know what temperature I want. 4 or 5K, but I don't know what manufacturer to pick.

The 219C offers a high color rendering index, which helps you see detail where color matters. The SST-20 does as well in 4000K and under, but not 5000K, and has more throw. XP-L HI is between the 219C and the SST-20. XM-L2 is the most floody.

I'm really liking my SST-20 lights- its not a perfect emitter but its pretty good. Of course I like my Nichia lights also... And my 80 cri xpg2 malkoffs. I have a 3000k 80cri xpl I swapped into a Thrunite Ti which is much better than the original NW XPL but its definitely lacking behind the sst-20 and 219. The 319A in my Four Sevens is actually VERY nice and even though I prefer a slightly warmer tint I still find it very nice.

Thank you for this. I appreciate the help. Trying to figure out ways to better compare. Is there a way to practically compare these? Seems like you have to buy 1 of each and decide what you like.

Where is the color rendering index listed for Nichia? LINK

Looks like the SST-20 CRI is 95, but doesn't specify the temperature dependency you suggested. PDF
