Hi Guys,
Can you help me mod this 3w Cree flashlight and camera, turning them into a nice DIY NV apparatus? The flashlight takes a single lith-ion on-board rechargeable 18650 battery or 3xAAA's.
I think I'd need to 1) swap in an 3w IR LED into the flashlight. And 2) remove the IR filter from the Easyshare camera.
Questions:
A) Is the container for the LED a standard piece, so that I could simply cut the wires, and splice in a replacement? Or do I need to remove the LED (by removing the tiny "reflecter"), then splice in the replacment?
B) If there's a choice, what IR LED would you suggest? The specific part number/source would be great to know...and if there's a choice, I'd like to go on the high side of the IR spectrum. Some of the animals I'll be using this to observe/photograph are able to see beyond the range of human sight...so I'd like to be safe and pick something on the high side, even if it's a bit more expensive.
C) There's a photo tutorial for a similar phone (http://www.flickr.com/photos/planetwrite/sets/72157615720459460/) but if anyone has tips for removing this specific IR filter from the camera, that'd be appreciated.
D) If there's a simple mod to improve the performace of the flashlight, let me know.
TIA for any tips or assistance!
Dr. John
PS: I guess I'm not allowed to add attachments yet, so here are links to the pics of the WJ (model name) flashlight and Kodak camera:
