Does anybody know if Surefire DF head threads are a specific threading?

I have Surefire X heads that I've managed to remove from the body (Fury P2X, 6PX Defender, a couple of G2X and G2ZX Maxvision combat light) and wondering if the Surefire DF threads are the same as Surefire X threads(?).

It would be cool to pick up a 18650 body (like in this post) to run on these heads since the have good performance on 16650, it'd be cool to try 18650.

* Is that the SureFire Ti pocket clip from DarkSucks?
* Will the Keep Power protected cells Malkoff sells fit in this 18650 configuration? Looks great. I'm a big fan of Jason's clips and the Malkoff Tricap and this seems to get around that adapter trouble the MDC 18650 to E series body has complaints of.
1) I'm using this clip. It's the one for the MD2, MD3, MD4 body.

2) I'm using a protected, button top 18650. The unprotected flat top version rattles and does NOT make contact. Therefore, I imagine the KeepPower protected cells would work with this body. Regarding the Tricap, it's this one, the one for the MD2, MD3, MD4 body, NOT the one for the E-series. Remember: both the clip and the Tricap ONLY fit the MD2, MD3, MD4 body.

@rrego Here's my reasoning: The Malkoff E2XTL head is designed for the Surefire M600DF body. The Weltool BB3 + TC59 fits the Malkoff E2XTL head. Therefore, the Surefire DF head fits the Weltool BB3 + TC59 setup. I don't have proof to back it up, only this reasoning.

I have a similar question, but I'm looking for a 18350 sized body that accepts the SureFire 6PX / Malkoff type tails.
Does such a thing exist?
I see there is a Weltool BB1/BB8 that is comatible with the Surefire M600DF heads, but is the tail also compatible with C-type threads..?

Could you link the BB1/BB8? I can't find it.

The only 18350 option I know from Weltool is the BB6+TC68 tail cap. However, the BB6 body can only use E-series tail cap, meaning you can use the Malkoff E-series tricap, but not the MDX tail cap or tricap.

sure, here you go:
BB1: https://www.weltool.com/page137?product_id=213
BB8: https://www.weltool.com/page137?product_id=225

I'm just so confused with their product line, because the BB6 supposedly sits the M600DF heads, like the PlhV2, but not a T8 head, which is supposedly also a dualfuel head, but can only go on a BB8 body.

JLHawaii carries Weltool products as well as KillZone. Maybe email them to get clarification?

Also, this chart may or may not be helpful.

cheers man, this can be useful!

now we just need to figure out where the t8 and w3 heads come into play with the bb8 and bb18 bodies! :D

maybe I'll drop them a mail, because I have seen a BB6 with an SF M600DF compatible head, this one:
1705183465298.png

so I'm 100% sure that is compatible with the PLH-v2, Malkoff E2XTL and SF M600DF, but the description of the BB18 ( the T8 line version ) even says "This set is compatible with Weltool LH series heads, including LH1, LH2, LH3, LH5, LH6, LH8, LH9,LH10, LH18, etc. It is also compatible with surefire M600DF heads" which means the LH series and the T8 series use the same threads...

All I can think now is that the power rating difference is what makes them (in)compatible, as the big ones drain 10A, so maybe the BB6 isn't supposed to take that load. Maybe...?

I'll drop them a mail and report back if I have news.

You can also use the TC70 with a BB6. TC70 is 10A capable, TC68 is 4A.

BB1 can be bought with the TC3 which is the lower amp capable tail cap (4A?).

BB8 with the TC80, higher amp capable tail cap (10A).

For 18650 the BB18 with TC20 (10A capable) looks like a decent option.
There's also the BB3 with TC59 (4A capable).
Looks like these bodies/tail caps are Surefire/Malkoff compatible also (6P, MD2 etc). As in DF head, 6P tail.

I tried a BB6 with TC70 and LH1 head. Also tried the same body/tail cap with a Surefire EDC2-DFT head but due to the protruding battery bumper etc on the Surefire head it wouldn't fit with a 40mm 18350. Works with a 35mm 18350 though.
A Malkoff head has no protrusions just like the Weltool LH1 head so it should work with a 40mm battery.

wow cheers man!

so they are cross-compatible all around, in the sense that all of them use the DF head, right?
( only limitation is the amperage it seems, right? )

which ones did you try with the 6P/Malkoff switches?

T8 = 18650 body compatible.
T8 plus = 21700 body compatible.

I don't think they want these heads on 18350 bodies because they are high drain and wouldn't last long. Although if the T8 fits on a BB6 I think you could use it with the TC70 10A tail cap.

The LH8 head can be bought on BB6/TC70 for 18350 and BB18/TC20 for 18650.
It's a bit more mild than the T8 head though.

I haven't actually used a Weltool body with a 6P/Malkoff tail cap but the TC59 (which can be bought with the BB3) is compatible in its description.
So you could use a BB3 body (18650) with DF head and use a Malkoff/McClicky tail cap etc.

Here's the blurb:

Weltool TC59 is a 1-inch diameter Click-On Lock-Out switch tailcap, compatible with Surefire 6P, 9P,6PX, C2, C3, Z2, L5, M2, M3, M3T and other torches.It can replace Z41, Z58, Z59 tail covers. It can withstand 4A current. The TC59 V1.0 tailcap are all aviation CNC machined aluminium.

in the meantime I got an answer from Weltool themselves as well, so I'll leave it here:

Hello
LH series heads are compatible with surefire M600DF, these are weapon light accessories
However, the W3 series and T8 series are not weapon lights, so they are not compatible with the LH series heads and have different threads.
All accessories in this picture are compatible with SF M600DF, please check

Hi guys,

What can I lego with an E2XTL head, which Gene says to fit only Surefire M600DF Scout? I prefer not to use the Malkoff E-series 18650 body due to the adapter issue. What other body and tailcap combo can I use to maximize a Malkoff quality?
I missed this part.

The E2XT and E2XTL are the same head with one difference. One is E series compatible and the other M600DF.
If you get the E2XTL you can use the appropriate 18650 body (can be bought as a pair. MDC pocket thrower). There's no adapter needed.
The E2XT can also have an (Malkoff) 18650 body but due to the E series threads uses an adapter (which it comes with).

Unless you want to use 18350, there's no need to get an after market body.

If I were after one I'd get the E2XTL over the E2XT and use the Malkoff scout M600DF body.

This is the body you can use with the E2XTL. No adapter required. It's cheaper when you buy them as a pair (MDC pocket thrower).

What is the issue with the adapter ?

Well, you don't actually need one if you get the E2XTL because it's M600DF scout compatible. Malkoff has his own body for this, no adapter required (as above in my previous posts).

If you have an E2XT, it's E series compatible. The appropriate 18650 Malkoff body uses an adapter between the body and head (which it comes with).
It depends if you like that system or not. The other option is to get an after market E series body with thin walls that can accommodate ~18mm cells. They're both a compromise to use 18mm cells with E series heads.

@F89 Thank you for taking the time to write back to me! I appreciate the thought, as we light geeks do :D

@fulee9999 thanks for posting Weltool's reply! This should help with the compatibility chart.

@md17 The original E2XT E-series thread body has an adapter that was reportedly getting stuck on the head, difficult to remove, and easy to damage. That was why I didn't want to try it. The other body options for the E2XT E-series thread include Surefire E-series bodies, and Lumens Factory E-series bodies, though there are likely more.

Due to the adapter issue, I went with the E2XTL, compatible with Surefire M600DF thread. The cheapest 18650 body I can find for this head is the Weltool BB6+TC59 combo. The pleasant surprise is I can use Malkoff MDX regular tailcap or tri cap on it. This thread is also compatible with Modlite OKW, which I'm considering as it's the DF thread alternative to Malkoff now discontinued E-series E2XTD.
