The warranty does not cover normal wear and tear, modifications, misuse, disintegration, neglect, accidents, improper maintenance or repairs performed by anyone other than an authorized dealer or SPERAS itself.

SPERAS P4 arrives in a light colored cardboard box with the classic writings showing the main characteristics that distinguish it. Inside the package we find, in addition to the SPERAS P4 flashlight with the 5000 mAh 21700 lithium battery inside, the USB-C charging cable, the holster, the lanyard, 2 spare O-rings, OTG connector, manual and warranty.

The holster is well made with non-elastic sides and a Velcro fastening. On the back there is a D-ring at the top and a double loop in the center, one of which has a button closure. Once inserted, SPERAS P4 remains very stable without strange movements.

SPERAS P4, like other SPERAS products tested, has good overall quality with an excellent level of construction. It is made of aluminum alloy with an anodized finish, military-grade hard black. The grip is perfect for my medium sized hand. P4 is 119mm long and weighs 185g with the battery inserted. The central body of the SPERAS P4 is not smooth but has a design with four vertical grooves and three in relief which provide a discreet grip when holding it in the hand.
The inscriptions located on the head are well made.

On the head of the SPERAS P4 we find a projector with three SMO reflectors with 3 well-centred OSRAM P9 LEDs. With these LEDs, SPERAS P4 reaches a maximum brightness of 4000 lumens and covers a distance of up to over 288 meters.

The Bezel of the SPERAS P4 is slightly crenulated and protruding. It protects the anti-reflection glass above the projector well.

On the side there is the USB-C format charging socket protected by a fairly thick rubber cap. After connecting the USB cable to an external power supply (such as a USB adapter or other USB charging devices) the charging process starts.

kLB1HjLR_o.jpg

While charging, the power indicator in the center of the button lights up red while when the battery is fully charged, SPERAS P4 stops the charging process and the power indicator turns green.

According to the manual, the charging time for a 21700i Li-ion battery (5,000mAh) is approximately 3 hours (charging via a separately supplied 5V/2A adapter). In my tests it took me about 3h30min to fully recharge the supplied battery.

During recharging SPERAS P4 can be switched on in ECO mode.

Power bank function:
After inserting the OTG converter, it can reverse charge your various electronic devices such as a power bank.

On the opposite side, of the charging socket, is the only switch with which the P4 is equipped.

In the center of the rubber button is the notification LED which indicates the battery status.

When the flashlight is on, the LED indicator in the side switch will automatically monitor the power for 5 seconds. The power indicator will display one of the following:

Green: 100%-70%
Orange: 70%-30%
Red: 30%-10%
Flashing Red: 10%-1% (Red LED will keep flashing to remind you of the power if it runs out soon).

Regarding the contacts with the battery we find a fairly thick spring at the end of the negative and a double spring at the head of the positive.

SPERAS P4 supports protected and unprotected 21700 batteries from other manufacturers as well, which is a good thing to take into consideration. I have tried some 21700 format batteries like the Samsung INR21700-40T, Nitecore NL2150 and Imalent MRB-217P40S with no problems.
The supplied battery is a protected 5000 mAh lithium 21700.

At the tail of the P4 we find the cap, the only unscrewable part, which allows us to insert or remove the battery. On the surface of the cap we find a diamond-shaped knurling, to facilitate the unscrewing operation, and a slot to insert the supplied lanyard.
The square-shaped threads of the torch body arrive well lubricated. There is also an O-ring for sealing against water and dust. P4 is IP68 certified (2 meters submersible).

USER INTERFACE (UI)

The SPERAS P4 user interface is very simple and easy to remember. The flashlight has memory (on Low, Medium and High) and has only a switch arranged on the side, five brightness levels and two special modes, Strobe and SOS.

ECO: 15 lumens, 167h
LOW: 100 lumens, 35h
MEDIUM: 500 lumens, 8h
HIGH: 2000-600 lumens, 90sec-6h
TURBO: 4000-800 lumens, 90sec-5h

STROBE: 4000 lumens
SOS: 500 lumens

ON/OFF

One click on the side switch to turn on/off the light. The flashlight turns on at the memory brightness (Low/Medium/High mode can be memorized when the power is off, the others are not memorized).

Change the brightness level

When the flashlight is on, press and hold the side switch to automatically switch between low, medium and high mode (the mode changes every 0.5 seconds), and the mode will be chosen once you release the side switch.

ECO/Turbo/Strobe and SOS

In OFF state, long press 0.5S to enter ECO mode. Quickly double-click the button to enter Turbo mode and single-click to deactivate it. In any state triple click to enter strobe mode; triple click again to enter SOS mode, single click to return to the mode before strobe.

Lock/Unlock operations

  • When the flashlight is off, press and hold the switch (about 2 seconds until the ECO turns off) to enter lockout mode. After locking, press the switch, the orange LED indicator flashes quickly for 2 seconds.
  • In the locked state, quickly triple click the switch to unlock the flashlight (the main light flashes twice when locking and unlocking).

BEAM and RUNTIME

vhilQMvi_o.jpg

The beam of the SPERAS P4 has a good depth to illuminate well at low and medium distances. I shot a bit in the woods in the countryside using the medium level with good lighting.
Using it at the highest levels (High and Turbo) the heat produced is felt in the hand when used without gloves.

mfc2mi3l_o.jpg

The coloring of the beam is not too cold, given that it is also evident from the tests made with the OPPLE Light Master instrument.

gfqPlxZL_o.jpg

The coloration is yellowish with a clean beam without rings or artifacts. The widely exploitable spill begins adjacent to the walk. By eye I have not noticed any particular PWM or flickering.
We see in the photo below the wall test together with the Nitecore P20iX.

8FfFGewe_o.jpg

The values in candela (lux/1 metre), found by me with a measurement at 3 meters, are, in the two highest levels, greater than those declared by SPERAS in its specifications.

dJKMaG6j_o.jpg

With a thermal imaging camera you can see how heat is distributed on the SPERAS P4.
The test was done in Turbo mode (4000 lumens) after 1 minute and 10 minutes from switching on.

0FXOJaJu_o.jpg

The Runtime were done in an internal environment with a temperature of about 18°C, using the supplied battery, a fully charged 21700 5000mAh.

I would like to point out that the values expressed by the graphs must be evaluated above all as a reference because they are made with means and conditions different from those used in the laboratory.

SPERAS P4 has temperature control to avoid overheating which can cause damage to the flashlight or injury to the user.
In the tests made with the LX1330B Luxmeter SPERAS P4 does not seem to have a real adjustment. In Turbo mode the brightness has a sudden drop, shortly after the minute, both without and with ventilation.
