OK. I've got your regulator all set. It should go out on Monday with your revised settings.

3.0V should be fine for AW's IMR cells. Since there are 8 of them, they have a greater chance of getting out of balance. So 3.0V makes for a decent safety margin.

I have decided that I want to use protected 3400mAh cells instead of IMRs, since they offer twice the runtime (at around 4.2A). To actually get this runtime one has to discharge these cells to 2.5V instead of 3V. This means I need to lower Vlow. What do you think would be a reasonable value? Could I change it based on the number of turns of the pot or do I really have to discharge the batteries to this voltage?

I wouldn't lower it much past 2.75v/cell. You can lower the Vlow by counting turns. The pots are 11 turn pots and have a span of 40V, so that's 3.64V/turn. To lower Your vlow from 3.0V/cell to 2.75V/cell you'll have to turn your pots counter-clockwise by (8*3)-(8*2.75)/3.64=0.549 Turns. This is not exact but should get you close.

Thanks. I will test that when the light is finished (in a few weeks). I guess I could just measure the resting voltages after the light shuts down and adjust accordingly.

Per our PMs, I'll take one:

Standard Mode
Vbulb: 7.1 volts
Vlow: 5.8 volts
Softstart: Medium
Low voltage warning: Dimming to 71%
Low voltage shutdown: 5.4 volts with no timed shutdown
Latch: Disabled
Over temp trigger: 80C
Over temp shutdown: Yes, 30 seconds.
Response: 1/4 second.

Paypal will be sent shortly

:paypal: Thank you so much for all of your help!

Say, "variable dimming" could be achieved by replacing the onboard r6 pot with an external potentiometer? I wonder if the results would be favorable.

While it is possible, the results would not be favorable. The pot would increase or decrease voltage by about 3.6 volts/turn. Too much. You could easily pop bulbs. However, it IS a microcontroller, so there are other ways. A custom firmware could use the aux ports to read a pot for adjustment within a range. Desoldering those little pots would be a pain without the right equip. Let me know if this is something you'd like to look into.

local post office is open now after holidays and i would like to send board back for diagnostics.

if the problem is on my side (assembly fault), i will pay for another one (or more).

thank you!

The assembly instructions in your Dropbox can't be accessed, is something wrong? (DOn't worry I already saved them to my computer). I was just now trying to link to them.

Hmmmm. Let me look into it. I can't do it until morning.

Edit: Looks like it's a DrobBox issue. I'll see if removing and reuploading fixes things.

Hey there,

I am doing a Larry K build ATM, and want to purchase one of your regulators for it.
I am new to the world of constructing lights, primarily the electronic/electrical bits.

I'll provide as much info as I can, as best I can.
Please excuse any incorrect units/part ID's etc.
Much of this is still new to me.

I am looking for a "standard mode" version, i.e. one that will perform the regulation needed for the circuit
without too many bells & whistles(so a noob like me can install it:))

I am using:-
-GE Q4559 28V 600W sealed beam
-an 8S 25C 29.6V 5800mAh LIPO -or- 2x 4S 25C 14.8V 5Ah LIPO -or- A custom built Sub-c Nimh pack

For "Standard Mode" (Default Values are Bold)
Operation Mode: Standard
Vbulb: 28.5 Volts
Vlow:25 Volts
Softstart: Med
Low Volt Warning: Pulsing
Low volt shutdown: Both Timed:30 seconds & Undervolt: 94%
VLOW_Latch:Disable
Over Temp trigger: 50C, 60C, 70C, or 80C
Over Temp Shutdown: Yes 30 Seconds
Response: 1/4

I am in Australia, could you please let me know the price, postage and ETA?

Is there anything I have left out? Any extra Info needed

With Thanks
James

You posted this is the D1 sales thread, Not the X1. Could you place this in the X1 thread using the X1 ordering parameters? The D1 can't drive a 20A load. Only the X1 can.

Thanks.

I want to have one of the 3 Mode Regulators please....

For "Multi-Level Mode"
Operation Mode: Multi-Level (Default Values are Bold)
Vbulb: Bulb is for 6 Volt
Vlow:
Level-1: that the bulb gets driven with 6 volt
Level-2: that bulb gets driven with 8,5 volt
Level-3: that bulb gets driven with 10,5 volt
SoftRamp: Yes
Softstart: Slow
Low Volt Warning: Pulsing
Low volt shutdown:
VLOW_Latch: Disable
Over Temp trigger: 70C
Over Temp Shutdown: Yes (30 Seconds)
Response: 1/4, second

Paypal send with shipping to Germany: 45 Dollar
Thank you very much:)

I'm a little confused.
You say that you want VBulb to be 6V, but Level-3 says 10.5V. VBulb will always be the MAXIMUM voltage the regulator will put out. It cannot exceed battery voltage. Level-3 us usually 100%. Which means that at Level-3, the bulb receives 100% of the VBulb setting.

Also, You have not specified what Voltage you want for Vlow (battery voltage where a low voltage warning kicks in).
