I've been building a device in SketchUp that will wrap around the outside edge of a stop/slow sign and have flashing LEDs corresponding to the color of the respective sign color. I've got the basic design down and am at a loss for what type of led to use in the device. My first thought was a 5mm through hole led with the leads bent 90° from the face but I think they might protrude too far and they will not fit in the bottom section of the model. Looking at the pictures, I planned for the LEDs to be placed at the circles and I still intend toplace them there but I'm curious to know if there is a better option available. The wrap has to be as translucent as possible and the LEDs or light sources cannot be large than 0.25" each.
My apologies for the crappy pictures, I haven't figured out how to get images out of SketchUp.
Just In case it isn't clear, the diodes will be encapsulated within the silicone ring and ideally will never again meet air once the mold is poured (or printed).
