Hey, Vinh. Have you ever considered modding a Olight M3XS-UT-JAVELOT? I was always curious on how well it would throw with a Oslon Black Flat LED. My guess would be that it would be pretty close to the Acebeam T21 maybe?

I think I did a few ONE-OFFs. Cant remember for sure. But yeah its basically a T21vn but not as good IIRC.

Congrats NL, very cute! They make fun pets, year before last we accidentally had kits which have been homed.

Very good points. Have you tried 219B Nichias, that is still available at Virence.com? 219B have the best tint I've ever seen. 4000k looks as neutral as can be without any ugly yellow or green. I used to love 219C because they are 90CRI and I actually do see better color rendering when shining flashlight at complex colors like outdoor foliage and dirt compared side by side with 70CRI Cree emitters. But now I much rather have the A and D tinted Cree emitters over 219C because the A and D tint bins are guaranteed not to be yellow/green.

Our eyes adapt to lighting and have natural white balance built-in to our brain. 4000k can actually look pure white at night when my eyes are adjusted to the 2700k-3000k house lights. Once I showed my wife a 4000k light at night and she said said she didn't like it because it is too CW and looks unnatural. In the day time I used the same light for her indoor picture taking of her bags and she said she don't like this light because it is not white enough and makes things look unnatural.

I think only the R9080 variants of the 219B are guaranteed to be below the BBL, so always slightly rosy. R9080 is Nichia's highest CRI varients of their LEDs-- means 90cri, 80 R9 minimum. Fireflires and Virence have the last remaining stock of these now discontinued LEDs. Actually I think Virence sold out just recently so now only Fireflies has them.

There are R9080 varients of the new E21A LEDs which look quite good as well.

My very first experience with a Nichia 219B was with an Eagletac D25C2, and it seemed slightly rosy. I had to sell that light off because UI was garbage. Second 219B light was an L11C, and I quite liked it. The tint of the 219B didn't seem too rosy, maybe even slightly at or above the BBL. I sold that off because I found the tint of my Zebralight SC600 MK3 HI (cherry-picked from 3) to have just as good of a tint. Then I had a Manker E14 with 4 219Bs at 5000k (when the light first came out they used 219Bs and not 219Cs like they do now). The tint of those was definitely above the BBL. Its tint and lack of runtime and bad UI made me sell it off quickly. I still do have my Jaxman E2 with 5600k Nichia 219B that is definitely slightly rosy and is a very nice tint. It is only R9050 though, and not the high R9080 kind, even though Maukka measured his sample to have R9 in the 80s.


CRI is just a numerical representation of how much of certain pastel samples (8 samples to be exact) a light produces compared to a theoretical ideal radiant of same color temperature. It doesn't delve into many other facets of light quality-- including deviation from perfect white point. So many high CRI sources can be high CRI, but have horribly greenish or pinkish tint.

So far all Imalent build quality have not impressed. Performance wise I am impressed with the DX80. But at the end of the day I rather have a X45vn. More throw, slightly less output but a much more quality, reliability and flexibility and better UI for me. They are improving fast so Acebeam and Olight should keep them on their radar. This light is bascially a Olight X9 and AB X70 competitor. We will see how this one turns out.
 
Thank you for your valuable input on build quality of Acebeam versus Imalent. I really do appreciate your input on what I consider to be important, the subject of Acebeam vs Imalent build quality.
I am an Acebeam fan, because they release so many new, interesting high performance products that have nice build quality. But Imalent also has been releasing lots of new, high performance products, too. They also announced R90C, 9 x XHP35HI, with more power and more flood than the X65vn, but not with more throw than X65vn. So, still nothing with both more throw and more lumens than the X65vn. So, I get to even longer enjoy my Kings of Searchlights, my brace of X65VNs.

vinh is right about everything. Imalent improved their UI with the jungle light series, then they did it again with this new round of lights. Personally though, I’m sticking with my TN42vn Oslon Black Flat. I listen to the master of flashlights (vinh) and use protected 18650’s as highly recommended by vinh :thumbsup:
 
The MS12 comes with XHP70 instead of 70.2. Maybe Vinh can mod it to use 70.2 and boost it up a bit more to get 70k lumens.
