The Rotary can be opened, if you are patient and careful. Check out one of the older HDS Systems #xxx threads for some disassembly info by ShineOnYouCrazyDiamond.

Thanks for the info.
I went ahead and ordered the clicky 18650 with SDR50. I saw the thread on opening the rotary and it kinda scares me if I were to do it myself. [emoji28]

Now I am hoping to get the light soon. Can't wait for it!

Who knows in the future I might get another one and it might be the rotary. [emoji16]

I hope it is not to late to change your order
buying a clicky, because you want to be able to change the button (once in ten years)
misses out on the opportunity to experience the Rotary UI (every day)

I strongly suggest you reconsider your priorities.. changing a switch button, vs using the UI that Henry, Hogo, and most HDS buyers use.

congratulations on the Joy of Shopping
enjoy whatever light you decide should be your first

I can pretty much guarantee that if you do not buy a Rotary now, you will have to later.

I have a HDS Ultimate 60 EDC circa 2005 I think and it's still on the original rubber button. Absolutely no need to worry about replacing the boot IMO. Rotary UI is unmatched, there is nothing on the market like it.
 
I like both. I think you should get one of each and then you will know which you prefer. The clicky is nice when I want to use the clip. Any time I wake up in the middle of the night, I grab a rotary so I can dial in the amount of light I want. I also have the holster for the rotary if I want to carry that. It is good to have options. :). Either way, the HDS is an extremely versatile and awesome EDC light.

Its probably too late. But I am okay with it.
Unfortunately, I already have an itch to get a second one, in rotary...
Just need to resist.

It is always good having one HDS more ... even if a HDS will not fail it is always good to have a backup light.

Try to resist and you are only fooling yourself. Make a priority list of the next three HDS lights you want to have. By this time next year you will have at least one light on that list, maybe two.

At first I thought it may have been photoshopped, but when looking closely, is it really real?!? Scary...

Well at least not so soon...

I hope I found at least 2 reasons to delay anymore purchases.

1) Driver update to support 1AA cells.
2) The HDS 2 or 2nd Generation or something.

Hope this helps others with the same itch/urge.

Yes, that is really real. And it is like I said, it is 2 years or so old. I have really a lot HDS lights all with different LEDs. And I also habe a few special metal HDS lights.

For those who like clips, I’d thought I’d show two options for rotaries.

The clip on the left is an Olight Baton Pro clip.
I just recently got this clip so I am not sure how well it will hold over time.

The clip on the right is a Streamlight ProTac 1L 1AA Pocket Clip.
I have been using this clip for a few years. I didn’t feel the clip held well enough on its own, so I have used a ziptie or lanyard for extra hold. It is pictured with a section of gutted paracord over a ziptie.
