Anybody have any experience with Samsung’s 30Q or 35E 18650 batteries? Specifically, does anybody know if Samsung’s flat top terminal is less likely to dent than the 18650GA?

Also, between the 30Q and 35E, any preference/insight between less internal resistance but lower capacity (30Q), or higher capacity but higher resistance (35E). I figure the HDS has a conservative draw, so the 35E may be better, but lithium battery science sometimes escapes me.

The 18650GA’s that I have are quite dented on the top; I haven’t thought much of it because it seems pretty normal. But last night I was getting ready to walk my dog, and with my hands full, dropped my HDS… as I dropped it, I flinched to catch it, and sent it flipping end over end as it hit the ground. It was on, and it didn’t flicker or anything, but wouldn’t go into turbo.

Turning the light off, and then turning it back on, it ramped low to high, as if it were checking for low battery or something (it was freshly charged). After the ramp, it acted completely normal, going in and out of all presets. I checked the battery when I got home, and all seems well. I even did a soft reset, and, again, everything is fine.

But now I'm second guessing the heavy dents on my 18650GA’s, and wondering if there’s a more durable 18650. As per this thread, somebody mentioned that the Samsung battery doesn’t dent. https://www.candlepowerforums.com/t...inal-typical-or-atypical.474400/#post-5446165

I pretty much only use Samsung 30Q cells in all my 18650 lights, i haven't had any issues with them whatsoever.

The two HDS lights are totally in Halloween fever, the black one is using the "pumpkin spice" GITD reflector for this event! :D

The ghosts and pumpkins are made by my wife by herself. She crochet the ghosts and pumpkins a few weeks ago. :clap:
The two HDS lights are bought by myself! :crackup:
 
Still getting the pick and place machine going. Henry is doing that. I just stand there and cuss it out. It’s what I’m good at. Hopefully when I’m back at HDS this Monday, we will (read “Henry will”) have it producing the electronics. I will be ready to give it a good “talking to” just in case. Henry has made some good progress with it. I would have used it as a 5.56 target by now along with a Rubik’s Cube… both equally as frustrating for someone with the attention span of a gnat who doesn’t read directions. What was I talking about?

Hogo, are y'all still looking at the beginning of next year for the new single AA lights?
 
I have a NB35 Rotary for EDC. I wanted to buy a second Rotary to keep at home. I'm undecided between the NB27 and NB30. Can you help me to make a decision?

IMHO the there won’t be too much of a difference in tint between the NB35 and NB30. If you intend to use the new light at home (especially at night) the warmer tint of the NB27 will be pleasant after sunset and less redundant with the NB35 you already have.
 
A durable and dependable light like the HDS I think would need AA support. If I’m depending on a light to work each and every time I need it, I would like AA support or at least a tube option for it. CR123’s are getting ridiculously expensive meanwhile there’s always a AA battery around, or any store carries them, and they are cheap. Not to mention rechargeable eneloops. 18500 is nice and all but there’s not really much buying options for 18500s, plus makes the light wider and heavier. IMO a AA/14500 is one of the best battery options in a flashlight. Standard size and tube diameter would be a bit thinner making less bulk and thickness while carrying.

Until that happens.... Streamlight Protac 1L-1AA.
I now own two. Just waiting for the 2nd one to arrive in the mail.
 
If the same outer diameter was kept as the current unicorn rare 18500 tube and the inner diameter was bored for 14500/AA, then the wall thickness could possibly be drilled and tapped for a screw-on clip without breaching the inner chamber.

Another option would be to replace the stop screw with a machined raised ledge (like Zebralights) and drill and tap that for a clip.
