Ti VME is so good. What drop in you got in that bad boy?
A 3500k kosen 519a m361. I was always a warm tint, beefy light kind of guy until I really started to like mdc's and eventually fell in love with the FFL MDCF. I still kind of missed the warmer tints and heavier flashlights though and my gf has commandeered my wll in a vme so I decided to splurge a bit since this one felt perfect for me.
 
Does anyone have a comparison of the bodyguard and e2xt or e2xtl? Ideally I’d want an e2xtl with a low mode, but the body guard seems like the next best thing to that. Thanks

I don't have either light, but just FYI the E2XT(L) will have about tenfive times the candela of the Bodyguard. They don't seem very comparable to me.

Edit: I guess they've gotten closer. The E2XT(L) heads used to have 500 lumens and 55k candela. Now they are 800 lumens but the same candela. The bodyguard v2 (larger body) is 1100 lumens and around 10,000 candela (they don't list the specs but it used to be in the Q/A section before that was removed from the website). The bodyguard v1 would have proportionally less candela.

The HTL seems closer to an E2XTL with a low mode.

Md21700 can in Fact have a legit pocket clip with some “engineering”. I used a lumens factory 2 way pocket clip, cut the ring and expanded it to fit. Then I cut off the 2 way part because it keep getting snagged. Also made some grip rings with a leather shoe lace and a constrictor knot. Pocketable lumens for hours. And I like the hack job look of the pocket clip.

I’ve pretty much givin up those drop ins. 3 mode output level spacing is horrible. No low voltage protection when they are rated for 3.7-9v? I’d never run multiple li-ions with no LVP. Protected cells don’t fit either. Running a single li-ion results in the efficiency being absolutely horrible.

MDC AA 1-2v and the 2-3.2v MDC’s are the only ones with good mode spacing and the only practical lights that are worth it.

TLDR

Fully agreed, and wanted to add, in my opinion, the spacing should scale logarithmically...depending on how many modes there are, there should be a factor of at least 7 between middle and higher modes, with the factor increasing or decreasing proportionately with the lumens. I.e., if max is 350 lumens, mid should be 50 lumens or less, and low should be 7 lumens or less. Of course, this should also scale against use case, where an AA might peak at 140 lumens, so mid would be 20, and low would be 3, or even sub lumen.

Malkoff's design philosophy seems to be reliability and durability, and is one of the reasons I stick with the L or LL models of the m61. A tough, super bright light is just a blunt paperweight if it runs out of juice.

But TLDR, without owning an MDC AA, I can fully agree that the advertised spacing is the best out of most of the Malkoff lineup.

**I run my m61L in an elzetta, not a malkoff...lighter and slimmer overall, and I use a protected 16650
 
About 20 lumens on a 14500?
They'll hit full brightness until the voltage drops below regulation. IDR what the regulation is on the m61, might be 3.7V

**Here taken from the Malkoff site on the m61LL,

"The input voltage is 3.4 - 9 volts. Below 3.4 volts it will drop out of regulation and run direct drive. This dropin is protected against reverse polarity."
