What did you use your flashlight for today?

Used my warm light Maglite Solitaire LED to look in the Lazy Susan for instant coffee (ick) this morning. Didn't find any, so took the time and brewed real coffee with the drip machine. Takes longer, and I was really tired, so wanted the instant coffee short cut. Meh, fresh brewed is "more...

Dogs vs people? Which do you prefer?

I had dogs as a boy, and I really want some again, but I've gone all my married life without a dog, but the same wife, so I prefer people. The main problem with pets is that humans live so much longer than they do, and if you get very attached to them, when they die, it hurts so much.

What was the last LED light you purchased and why?

I ordered a cool white LED Maglite Solitaire, because I didn't have one, and wanted to compare the light to the Warm White Spectrum Solitaire that I keep on my key ring. My better half had earlier expressed a preference for the warm white of that light, but when I got the cool white Solitaire...

What did you use your flashlight for today?

Silver 2xAAA Mini Maglite helped me locate the paper jam in my printer and clear it.

Things I've learned the hard way . . .(Part 2)

Mother Nature does her best to clean the gene pool of lesser mortals. Use mosquito repellent, use tick countermeasures, go inside when it storms, stay off of questionable ice, listen to your elders, etc. Those who don't learn from the past, die early. Pompeii taught us it is not generally a good...

    Another Byk Story

I liked your story so much I showed it to my better half--she got a chuckle out of it! 🙂 Thanks for sharing that with us.

Things I've learned the hard way . . .(Part 2)

You are half-way there...never trust anyone, regardless of tats. People with tats were once tat-less. The tats didn't change them, they were the same before the tat. The tat is simply an expression of what was hidden inside before.

A very nice action on your part, and very much in line with Mike's own personality, I think. I never met Mike, but we did exchange a few private messages, and I loved reading his writings. His stories accompanied by his great photos were just so addictive, and his passion for Maglites has...

    Cutting a tree down

Green wood doesn't burn as nicely as dried wood does, it pops and smokes, and generally is unpleasant compared to dried wood. It will burn, but not as readily, and not as "nicely". IMO.

    Cutting a tree down

It will be easier to split once it has dried out for several months. I think 8-10 months is a good drying time. As said above, cover the top of the pile and leave the side open to the breeze.

    Cutting a tree down

I don't know. Dogs generally pee on trees, and not people. 😉 Draw your own conclusion.

The Big Apple takes a bite!

You got ripped off. You can change oil and headlamp yourself, and save a ton of money. Of course, working under your car in the snow is no fun, but if you are a young able-bodied man with appropriate clothing and some mechanical aptitude...meh. Now, I'm an old curmudgeon, so I don't "do" auto...
