Cutting a tree down

Candle Power Forums

Help Support Candle Power:

Cut to length, split, then cover the top to keep rain off. Don't cover the sides so that it can get air to dry. We let ours age to the next season to burn, but that is oak that is already dead when cut. May take longer for a live tree.

Trees, like dogs, are better than people. 😉
Because only the dogs care when a tree is removed.

People are just so selfish, only caring about themselves and not the trees*. Dogs knows better.
*Blatantly ignoring the 8 trees around the backyard that we had cut down back in 2016, because they near completely blocked the view from the garden.

Obviously I'm being sarcastic here. A /s for those in the know.

Green wood doesn't burn as nicely as dried wood does, it pops and smokes, and generally is unpleasant compared to dried wood. It will burn, but not as readily, and not as "nicely". IMO.

If you garden, logs can be used for Hügelkultur. It's an old German technique for farming in areas with substandard soils (i.e. areas with forests).

I think it's a neat way to use logs, haha. Plus, the stuff planted near the top is easier to get to, so it's simultaneously a bit of a raised garden.
